Fantastic day trip and a long one! The waterfalls at Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss were very scenic and it was great to either walk around behind or climb up the many steps to the top of each of them respectively. You were unable to approach too close to the bottom of Skogafoss due to the presence of a film crew Then onwards to Reynisfjara beach near the village of Vik where you see basalt column cliffs and cave mouth, large rock stacks in the ocean that are supposedly trolls that turned to stone, the black sandy beach and the dangerous surf!. Avoiding our imminent death at the shoreline we enjoyed a delicious bowl of lamb soup in the beach cafe. Then it was on to our next stop, the glacier lagoon another 2 hours drive away! Its during this drive that you realise the impressive scale of the wasteland along this section of the South Coast. Huge cliffs on your left with occasional waterfalls and the odd peek of a glacier beyond and vast areas of flat wilderness and river delta features across which the road lies. Jokullsarlon is definitely worth the long drive though. I could have sat and watched the fractured, broken chunks of ice swirling around in the water flow, which was heading in from the sea, for hours. Seabirds wheeled overhead, screeched and dived whilst the seals bobbed and dived amongst the floating, toppling and sometimes crashing icebergs. The glacier nose in the distance seemed far closer than the 7km we were told it was. We paid extra for an amphibious boat trip into the lagoon which was fun and got to taste a fresh chunk of ice lifted out of the water. The diamond beach was unfortunately devoid of diamonds the day we were there so we drove to another lagoon instead before heading back to Vik for toilets/refreshments and then back to Reykjavik. The minibus was comfortable enough for the journey, our guide/driver was amiable and courteous and we arrived back at our hotel thoroughly exhausted but felt that we had had a great day. Although there were occasional places to buy food/drink, my advice is to bring a packed lunch with you too - you spend many hours travelling.
