The coffee museum was very nice as well as the lava tube we walked through. Kona coffee tastings and Rum cake samples were good! Lunch was a bento box and we ate it at a quaint, delicious bakery! Black Sands Beach had 3 huge turtles resting on the sand...what a site! Volcanoes National Park was magnificent and our drive down Crater Road was awesome! Ehetu took many pictures of each of us and was so knowledgeable during our walk around the lava fields and along the crater road down to the ocean. Dinner was nice at the Lava Rock Cafe and all the waitresses said Ehetu was the best tour guide. We settled back into the very nice tour bus for our drive through Hilo and then up the Saddle Road to the summit of Mauna Kea. Great stargazing! The southern hemisphere has different stars than what we East Coast, Northerners are used to. Ehetu used his green laser to show us the beautiful constellations and the milky way!! Great tour!!
If you are looking to see a large portion of Big Island, this is the tour to go on. The path takes you to many interesting places and see amazing things that are not located anywhere else but Big Island. While the tour itself is fantastic, what really made it special was the tour guide. We were lucky enough to go with Kala Holiday. Not only does he know the island very well, but he knows a lot about Hawaii's history and its mythology. In addition he tells it in a way that pulls you in, and keeps you entertained and engaged the entire time. He does his job so well that, at many of the stops, the other visitors would follow us just to hear him talk about the site. I would definitely recommend this tour and try to schedule it when Kala can lead it. You will not be disappointed.
The tour, travelers, and most of all Dreu made for a fantastIc day! Dreu shared info and his passion for the island in an entertaining way. He went above and beyond to show us all that was available. He made sure we.also got to share this day as friends!!! Lucky to have him as our guide. Mahola Dreu.

Our guide Keith was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. He kept us on a schedule so that we would hit the tour highlights at exactly the right time. There was a progressive "WOW" buildup during the Volcanoes National Park visit so that each site and view of the caldera got better and better. The star gazing was fantastic despite the cold (yes cold in Hawaii). It's a lot of driving around in the van but you get a sense of much of the island.
Our guide Kala was amazing. He was very accomodating and had a wealth of knowledge about his tour. We enjoyed all his stories. The lunch and dinner were also very good and tasty. The van was top notch - Mercedes Sprinter. Loved it because we didn't have to drive back to Kona in the dark!
Our tour guide, Kala was very knowledgeable about the island, the history, culture and customs. He not only gave us information about the sites we were visiting but was also a wealth of knowledge about the rest of the island as we were driving around the island. He made sure we were able to get plenty of great pictures and was excited as everyone on the tour that we were able to see lava. This was truly the best thing we did on our vacation on the island I would highly recommend.
Unfortunately, this was not what we expected. Although Chris was knowledgeable, entertaining and accommodating, with the exception of seeing the lava flow, this was nothing but a long, long ride around the island with dinner at the military mess hall. Do not recommend.
Kris or Chris was an interesting guide. He states he is half Hawain and half Portuguese. He appears to have recieved a BS in vucanology from a university in Idaho, and taught 8th grade science in the school he went to as a youngster in Hawaii. He appears to be quite knowledgable. Kris bewgan the day as quite the friendly fellow. Somewhere in the middle of the day, he began to become curt and surly. The food was marginal. Kris was upset by the time we arrived at dinner and concerned that his grandmother would scold him if the group did not behave just right.
By the end of the day he was driving 20 or more miles an hour over the speed limit looking under the stearing wheel at the road ahead and not communicating at all. He was clearly upset but unwilling to say about what.
The places we wnt were great. I have some wonderful pictures both of the scenery and the other people on the tour as we took pictures for one another. The group was great.
At the end of the day I was quite happy to get out of the bus with Kris in it.
The fellow tourists were fun and friendly.
Amazing!!!! The volcano tour was brilliant! Dan was our tour guide for the day and he was fantastic!! So knowledgeable and interesting. The day was great!!! Dan was awesome and showed us some really amazing sites. He even stopped on the way home, for us to stargaze. A must must do experience!!!
