Bus left us

Viator partnered with Gray Libe tours for this day trip. We were at the bus stop 45 prior to our expected pick up time. There were 200 people and about 15 other buses there as well. I spoke with a tour guide from Gray Line tours going to the ice cave who told me after some discussion that I was not on their boarding list. That was the o lot Gray Libe bus marked “Ice Cave.” I contacted Gray Libe tours who notified me hat my friend and I were considered “no shows.” I explained that I was speaking to another Gray Libe tour guide at the time who was searching for my name by the time she was finished, we must have missed our actual tour bus. I was very disappointed that Gray Line tour’s bus was not clearly posted as Gray Libe bus notified me later that the bus was marked “tour pickup” as were the other 15 buses. Do not take this tour!!! Gray Line bus tours does not care at all about their clients and Viator is charging us without providing a service!!! Please do not take this tour!!!!!

This tour was a once in a lifetime...

This tour was a once in a lifetime experience. Going INSIDE of a glacier is crazy cool! But this tour only gets 4 stars for these reasons: 1 This is a long, long day. It is so much riding in the bus. Which is not comfortable if the bus is not warm which ours was not. 2 Upon spending so much time on the bus, you would think your bus driver is kind of your tour guide for the day. Ours was not. Everything with him was completely minimal. The only words he said to us were where we stopped, how long we would have at our location, and that we couldn't eat on the bus. 3 Not being able to eat on the bus reminded us of being school children on a field trip where you were scolded if you ate. We were on that bus for HOURS. In fact in the 11 hours, only 3 of those were spent seeing the hot springs, falls, and ice cave. About 1 1/20-2 hours was spent taking breaks. That leaves 6 hours on the bus. That's more than half the tour length. As people who are used to snacking throughout long days for health and maintenance reasons, being told several times that we couldn't eat on the bus didn't exactly make the road trip pleasant. But there are great things about this tour: 1 The hot springs location is amazing. We were only there for about 20 minutes, but that was enough time to take in the sight and take pictures. If it's a cold day, having only 20 minutes out there is a welcome short amount of time! 2 You do have a couple of breaks from the drive. One is a pit stop kind of thing...but there's plenty of time to sit inside, eat, look around, etc. There's also a lunch break that's about an hour. If you brought your own food which we did to save money, you have to sit outside and eat it. That is not fun if it is cold. We spent maybe 15 minutes outside eating, then went into the restaurant and ended up spending money anyway we just got hot tea and cake just so we could sit inside in the warmth. 3 The ice cave is the BEST PART of this tour! Obviously...since that's the whole point of the tour. The tour guides for the ice cave are awesome! Fun, friendly, and extremely informative. It is really incredible to learn about glaciers by being inside of one. Scientists and researchers go inside THIS cave to understand more about all sorts of things! Inside the cave is a constant melting point temperature 32 F or 0 C, no matter what time of year. Therefore, it's basically raining on you inside the cave. Which is just part of the experience. So when they say waterproof clothes....seriously, wear waterproof clothes, especially shoes! After you enter the cave, everyone is given shoe chains to put on over their shoes, which is really helpful. There's also mats laid down on really slippery areas throughout the cave, so as long as you walk on those, you're fine. You spend about an hour in the cave. You see so much and learn so much! So cool! What we didn't think to realize....you will be colder outside of the cave. Standing on the glacier is rather frigid. But the view is amazing. And you're not standing on the glacier for very long. 4 The Children's Falls we saw on our way back from the glacier. That was pretty neat because the water is coming from the glacier! It's beautiful and you get about 40 minutes to walk around it all. 5 The whole tour basically gives you the cycle of how Iceland gets its natural water supply and hot water supply. That's really amazing to see. And again, being inside of a glacier was fascinating and an incredibly educating experience. All in all, this tour is great! But if you go in knowing that it's going to be a lot of riding around, pretty chilly all day, and that your only tour guide will really be at the Ice Cave, then you'll have a great experience! If we had understood all that from the start, it would've made it a little better. But the sites you see on this tour are totally worth taking this tour!

Awesome day. Beautiful cave. We had Thor as our guide and he rocked. He sangot the Icelandic national anthem in the Chapel for us. They give you a small snack and chocolate milk once you emerge which was delicious
