When to Get There

Basilica del Voto Nacional is open to tourists every day from morning until the afternoon. The church is far less crowded on weekdays, and is particularly striking after dark when it is illuminated in a golden glow. Come in November and December for the colorful Fiestas de Quito when food markets spring up, along with parades, and flamenco shows.

Wildcard

La Capilla de Sacramento While hard to compete with the gargoyles and the view from the towers, the church features an exquisite side chapel dedicated to the holy sacrament. The Chapel of the Sacrament features exquisitely painted walls, mosaic-tiled floors, and an altar dedicated to the Blessed Virgin.
