We lucked out on our trip with beautiful weather... unfortunately that meant no clouds, but hey! The hike was still gorgeous. Our guide was very friendly and very diligent in trying to find a quetzal bird for us, and while we weren't so lucky with that, it was still a well paced hike. Guide was very accommodating in terms of speed, where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see, our goal for the tour, etc. Lunch afterwards was delicious, and the restaurant staff are very sweet. While it was a bit expensive for a day trip, it was a good tour. Bummed at the lack of clouds, but I wouldn't harm the rating of the tour because of too good of weather. The staff and the structure was great.

Great Guides, No GoPro promised package

Venado Caves Underground Experience from La Fortuna | sep 2019
The driver Miguel and guide Victor were professional and kind. I chose this particular tour ($20/person more than others offered) due to the advertised GoPro picture and video package. It would have allowed us to capture our adventure without worrying about carrying my phone. The intense rain made the cave a small river with sand and muddy surfaces. Though a great adventure, we unfortunately were unable to capture the memories. I have emailed the tour director EcoTerra as the guide and driver recommended (same email they confirmed my hotel information with), and have not yet heard back. I am hoping they make this right by refunding my 60$ extra I paid for pictures/video and the promised hiking boots that we never received

Be prepared to be physically and mentally challenged

Venado Caves Underground Experience from La Fortuna | may 2019
This is for those that like a challenge or like to challenge their fears. I had to face my closterphobia with the tunnels, some with very small openings. Also if you have squeezy around spiders, you will have to be brave. You will get wet, muddy and aphysical workout. I am a 45 YO old woman who struggles with weight, but made it. My 9 YO handled it like a champ.

Arenal hanging bridges

Arenal Hanging Bridges Hiking Tour | mar 2019
Such a wonderful, lush, alive forest! I overcame my fear of swinging bridges over deep ravines to have this experience and I am very glad I did. The animals and vegetation were spectacular and our guide was fabulous in spotting wildlife of interest and helping us get great photos.

Rainforest Night Walk and Authentic Costa Rican Dinner from La Fortuna | jul 2018
One man can truly make a difference! The family's property was gorgeous and the number of wild frogs we saw was pretty incredible. Our guides were enthusiastic and were able to spot animals from far away. En route to the house they even stopped so we could see some monkeys up in the trees on the side of the road, and an owl-like bird that our guide somehow spotted in the trees. The meal the family cooked was delicious and it was fun to learn about their history and how they're helping to re-forest their land. Definitely worth the time and money to take this tour!

Interesting experience visiting a family farm. Guides worked hard at finding frogs and animals. Unfortunately we did not see a whole lot of things. Family was nice, house interesting, food ok.

The guide was very nice and showed us a lot of different frogs. But, I didn't know that we were going to a private house. I felt a little uncomfortable.

Our tour guide for our Hanging...

Arenal Hanging Bridges Hiking Tour | feb 2018

Our tour guide for our Hanging Bridges tour was excellent. He was very dynamic and enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge about the rain forest we were walking through. Having a guide is a very different experience from walking through the forest on your own. He explained so many details about the various trees, visitors could not possibly have gathered the information on their own. It was very fascinating. It was also very interesting walking along the various suspension bridges across the very deep gullies. Some were longer and swayed more than others and some relatively short. They provided a beautiful view of the forest. Though the walk was not especially challenging, it did require some endurance as there was a certain amount of climbing and descending along the paths. Though we encountered other visitors to the park, it was not crowded. Our guide carried a laser pointer which helped us locate what he was trying to bring to our attention when it was at a greater distance. Probably the highlight was seeing the large grouping of spider monkeys high in the canopy, swinging from tree to tree. Some were moms with babies hanging on for dear life! They were a beautiful rust colour. We watched them for some time. We also learned about insects, particularly cutter ants and their different functions. Some very interesting information was also provided on the symbiotic relationships between some birds and trees. All very interesting. At the culmination of our tour, we were offered watermelon, pineapple and biscuits before heading home. All was excellent and an unexpected treat. All in all, an excellent day.

Best of La Fortuna Combo Tour | ago 2017

We were glad we went on this tour. We got the history and to see the sights but might be a little pricy for what it is. Since we were staying near the volcano we wanted to learn about it but google would have done just as good. You must see la fortuna waterfall for sure as it is beautiful!!
