Bacalar Chico National Park and Marine Reserve

Bacalar Chico National Park and Marine Reserve
Located on the northernmost tip of Ambergris Caye, Bacalar Chico is said to be one of the most pristine reserves in Belize. In addition to being a protected marine reserve since 1996, Bacalar Chico is a declared World Heritage Site, along with the Belize Barrier Reef. It’s an ideal getaway for nature and history enthusiasts – the reserve has a wide array of marine life for snorkeling – including gorgeous coral, West Indian manatees and the country’s largest turtle nesting site – almost 200 species of birds, mangroves and several Maya archeological sites.

A mere 45-minute boat journey from San Pedro, the park is home to “Rocky Point” the only place in Belize where the Barrier Reef actually touches the coastline, making it a popular dive site. A Visitor’s Center at the park provides ample information on the flora and fauna sightings. The beautiful beaches are ideal for a day’s snorkel and diving trip, ending with a beach barbeque.
