DO THIS TRIP - in my opinion, either part of the trip was well worth the trip, plus it gave us the chance to see lots more of the island! The karst mountains are beautiful and fascinating. The observatory at Arecibo is mindblowingly huge and cool. Our guide, Hector, was smart, funny, kind, and great to talk to. If I were still on the Island, I'd do it again!
The beauty of the caves and surrounding landscapes is fantastic. While in the caves, we saw several petroglyphs, two Puerto Rican boas, numerous bats, and one big-a spider. Our driver, Ismael, was very friendly, had a great sense of humor, and regaled us with stories and information about the country, culture, and history during our drive from and back to our hotel in Carolina. Well worth the money and time.
This was a great tour! Our guide, Omar from Bespoke Lifestyle Management local tour operator was fully knowledgeable not only about the specific destinations but about all of Puerto Rico. It was around a two hour drive from San Juan to Rio Camuy Caves and he kept us informed the entire time about local towns, their industries and history. He also pointed out the flora and fauna we saw along the way. He left us so we could join the tour group for the cave, then re-met with us to continue on to Arecibo Observatory - Very Fascinating!! Highly recommend this tour and tour guide.
Really enjoyed this trip. The guide was wonderful. She was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It was nice to get out of the city and see some of the countryside. I was really interested to see the telescope and it is amazing. I am a scientist and found this site was informative and entertaining. The caves were impressive, lots of bat pooh. Joking aside, plenty of time to see the caves , the guide was excellent. Not strenuous at all. We would recommend this tour
The local company that took us was Bespoke Life Style Management. Estrella picked us up at the hotel. She was great. She was friendly , knowledgeable and easily approachable. She started giving us information as we drove to the caves. The caves were very interesting. They have their own tour guide. You need to wear footwear with good traction. The trails are cement and rock. A good part of the trial is wet and the rock parts are a little slippery but manageable. From there we drove to the observatory. Here too, Estrella gave us information along the way. There wasn't as much to see at the observatory as I thought. You don't spend that much time there. But, the cave more than make up for the fun you don't get at the observatory.
Our Driver was excellent and the Camuy Caves part of the tour was great, but unfortunately we were unable to see the Observatory because it was close. The tour company was very accommodating in
giving us options for this. Highly recommend .
Wonderful tour! Our guide Jesus was terrific and we enjoyed his humor and stories throughout the day. The caves are beautful and a very easy walk. The visit to Arecibo was fascinating. As a space buff, seeing the radio telescope and hearing the science being done there was a wonderful experience for me. Well worth a visit!
