Our guide, Paros, was not professional at all. When we first got in the van I knew this was going to be bad when after we told him we were on our honeymoon, he lectured us not to cheat on each other... super awkward! He dropped several F bombs, told us not to talk about politics yet would bring up Trump and how amazing he is. He said he knew a lot about Athens, had the best reviews of all the guides, but when we asked questions, he would not answer them instead ramble about something completely different. For example someone asked “is this the shopping district?” and his answer was about how a lot of Russians lived in the area... what?? Plus he wouldn’t talk while driving. You’re pretty much paying for a driver. He didn’t go to the Temple with us. In fact... he didn’t tell us anything about it, when my husband asked a question he said he would answer him in a minute and never did. While the driving in Athens in general is a lot more aggressive than what I’m used to, his driving scared the crap out of me. We went for the sunset trip and ended up leaving Cape Sounion before sunset. We had two stops before Cape Sounion which were pointless. On the way back a street was closed because Angela Merkle was in town and I was horrified to hear him say how he didn’t give a f*** about her and hates Germans. He clearly has a temper issue! I’m glad we went, which is why I’ll add an extra star because even without a guide, the views and temple were impressive. But if you have the chance, choose a different driver!!!
Panos (when not falling asleep while driving) spent the whole time complaining about finances, corporate businesses, immigrants, money, tax, etc including talking about young children being raped in immigrant camps - while my child was sitting next to him in the vehicle. Completely age inappropriate. As to the trip, there was no stop to swim in the sea as many have commented (the whole reason we chose a morning rather than evening trip). The driver stopped once to point out a place where people swim (and took our pictures before we drove on). I'd recommend the Cape Sounion visit, but find a different guide, company, or transportation option.
We had one evening before leaving Greece after our Globus Tour and our Travel Agent suggested seeing the sunset at Cape Sounion. Panos was punctual and a great driver. He knew the best places to stop for pictures along the 1.5 hour drive. The sunset was amazing!
The countryside is beautiful and when you have a good group on the bus, it can be real fun. Poseidon's Temple needed a guide to help really tell its story. Our tour guide was adequate but could have offered more by way of history and interpretation.
Tour was very nice. Tourguide very good and had very good info about history and made sure that driving to Cape Sounion from Athens was not boring. One of the best places to see ancient Hellanic history and beautiful sunset. I recommend this tour.
