Our guide was fantastic :-) She really knows the area and where to get the best of each type of tapa (there are a million tapas places around, some better than others). She is both a foodie and she works in the wine industry so she knows how to pair up the food and wine nicely. We tried 7 or 8 tapas and 11 wines and never felt rushed or overwhelmed. She made it easy for strangers to have a good time together with her conversation and stories as well as allowing us to conversations on our own - we were from all over the US with various experience levels. It was really a fun nite and very satisfying to the palate :-)
We took this tour our first night in Barcelona, and we are so glad we did. The group is limited to only 9 participants, keeping it fun and intimate. The guide, Fin, is a Brit who has resettled in Barcelona, completely embracing its culture. He is eager to share his vast knowledge of the city, its customs and history.
The tour consisted of three stops for tapas and wine. Well, not just wine. At the first restaurant we sampled a very pleasant local dark, slightly sweet Yzaguirre vermouth which was accompanied yummy patatas bravas crispy potatoes with a creamy and a spicy sauce. Both were delightful. This was followed by creamy jamon croquettes, the best we had while in Spain.
The second stop was at wine bar to sample some tostas and of course wine. Tostas are tapas created on thin crispy bread. Two types were served. The first was a juicy roasted eggplant and the second an unusual but tasty mixture of raspberry jam, blue cheese and green apple which created constantly changing flavors on the palate. These were paired with small production regionally produced cavas sparkling wine which paired delightfully with the tostas. Two additional regional wines were served in addition.
Last stop was a small wine store/bar which featured local wines dispensed directly from barrels. These wines which were surprisingly good and cost as little as 2,30 euros per liter! The wine shop had a private room next door which allowed us to taste a number more wines paired with local cheeses and meats. This was a very relaxing conclusion to a brilliantly curated evening of food, wine and lively discussions.
One further note Fin followed up the evening by sending each of us an email with an attachment detailing where we had been and what we had sampled. In addition, he gave us a very informative handout packed with information on things to do in Barcelona, places to eat by district barrio, wine bars/shops and more! Fins eagerness to help make help make our visit enjoyable was unparalleled during our trip.
Fin was an excellent host. He was passionate about the wine and the tapas were soooo good. My husband and I really enjoyed this tour, one of our favorites of our vacation. Highly recommend this tour. Fin also gave the group recommendation for other places and gave us a little history on the area. GREAT, ENJOYABLE and WOULD DO AGAIN
This tour was by far my fiance's and my favorite tour in Barcelona. Our guide was very knowledgable and obviously loves what he does. We got to sample amazing wines and foods all while learning about the history of the city and wine. Don't worry if you're not a big drinker like me- he didn't judge when I had to pour out the remainder of my glass to keep going. And it didn't matter if you were a wine expert yourself. We were all novice wine drinkers.
We were a very small group as there was one other couple with us, so it was very intimate. I would recommend this tour in a heartbeat.
We did the tour with Victoria. She was informative, fun and made the experience wonderful. The tapas were delicious and the wine pairing excellent. We loved the starting point at Bodega La Puntual so much that we went back for dinner in a couple of days.
Us three are not wine drinkers we do love food, but we wanted to learn, so we decided to give it a go and booked the tour for the evening of July 11. Ours was a small group of seven eight including Jaome, our guide, and Jaome took good care of us non-drinkers, helping us understand the local wine culture and traditions, history, etc with regular samplings of tapas and drink our fellow tour participants were great and helpful too. At the end of the tour we emerged wiser, with some of us an appreciation for wines and a taste for vermouth!. An evening well-spent!
Finn is charming! We really enjoyed our wine tasting and tapas tour with Finn. He will answer any questions about Barcelona or wine. It was great to do this tour early in our stay as we went to lunch the next day at a total local joint Finn had recommended near the Sagrads Familia. Life saver! On the tour the food was plentiful as was the wine. We went to two restaurants and one bodega that was more of a neighborhood wine and cheese store where they sell wine by the jug and also have lovely bottled wine. It was a fun group of four couples, with a combination of wine lovers and total novices in wine. Finn was masterful at catering to all levels - we highly recommend him and this tour.
This tour was far better than expected. Our guide, Fin, knows his stuff and is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge about wines, Barcelona and places to eat and enjoy some great wines. The places he selected for us to visit were in close proximity and offered a good variety and idea of what Barcelona has to offer. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Barcelona. Only one caution: if you think you want to do it book early as it frequently sells out. Groups are limited to 10 people.
