We enjoyed the view from the boat during our trip. The band was good however not many people stayed to listen to it, the atmosphere was not great, most people went straight up to look at the view. The cocktails were not up to much, tasteless. What really spoiled our night was that we stood waiting for our transport to the boat for over half an hour, we eventually went to reception and the young man rang the contact number we had. A mini bus came and took us to the boat, we just made it, the driver was very nice and assured us we would get there in time. Had we not rang I don't think we would have got there. We were on a pedestrianised street but did wait where we were instructed on our confirmation letter. This was the second trip that week where we had been let down, so distressing. it did spoil it for us as we were quite looking forward to it. Very disappointed.
I was worried initially, as we had to go to an address to pick up the tickets. This was up a side street and there was quite a crowd outside. A young woman came out, held a brochure above her head and then said something we couldn't hear, we couldn't see the brochure either, because, as it was a moonlight cruise, it was dark! As most people started to follow her, we presumed we should as well. We were led over a busy road, through a packed bar at the base of the Chain bridge and along the riverbank and eventually queued up to get on the boat. Once on, we found it difficult to get a seat on top as they had all been taken, and it was a warm night. We did get a seat outside on the next deck down, and that was fine as the tour goes up and down the Danube. There was one poor woman producing cocktails and she was very good, albeit rushed off her feet. The buildings, especially the Parliament lit up were magical and the trip was worth the effort for those. One word of warning, which no-one had pointed out, by the time you get off the boat, the Metro has closed for the night so you may need to make alternate arrangements.
I brought the cocktail cruise for my friends 21st Birth present in hope the experience would be memorable and special however overall I was disappointed. It had no organisation and there was lack of communication between the staff and guests.
As this was my Daughters first visit to Budapest I booked this as her farewell and last memory of the holiday.
The weather could not have been more perfect and the cruise was pretty much everything I had expected and my daughter loved it. Especially the musicians. It had its humorous side, such as the barman trying to show off mixing a Mojito as he no doubt thought Tom Cruise would have done in the film Cocktail, in the event he'd have had more luck mixing cement lol.. was fun to watch though:
With hindsight I would definitely have booked the Dining experience as this looked fabulous, even though you need to dress for it:
On the whole Viator are my first choice for excursions as in 99 of cases they have always worked out great:
It was fantastic! Beautiful boat tour of a beautiful city. The free cocktails were a bonus, we really just wanted to see Budapest and all its beauty at night. The live band was lovely, and though we stayed on the top deck a lot and didnt hear much of the tour guide, it was an amazing experience.
This tour was very misleading, when we booked it said we were paying for two cocktails, live music and a tour guide. We were seated in the "pesk room, then were served one drink that tasty white badly, we had no tour guide and there was no live music anywhere near where we were or that we could hear
