This was the highlight of our trip! We took the tour from Tamarindo and even though it was a long day, it was worth it! Our driver was Paul and he was amazing. He went above and beyond for our group. The food was fantastic at the buffet lunch. The ziplining did take a little while waiting sometimes but it was fine because our group was chatty and got to know one another. Plan to be gone all day.
This tour was amazing! We wanted to do it again. I would suggest leaving this tour second to last day of your trip because nothing else will beat this! Leave the best for last. All other reviews describe this trip perfectly. I will add a couple of things. For the horse back riding, wear shorts/pants that will go down to your knees for a more comfortable ride. Also, if you have never been on a horse, calm down, the horses know what they are doing and know where to go, just sit, relax and go with the flow. We witnessed a couple of people freaking out for no reason. For the tubing, you will carry the tubes down to the river, under 5 minutes, so be ready for some upper body strength. Don't be scared of the rapids or falling out of the tubes, if you fall out, the guides are they to pull you back unto the tubes if you are unable to do it yourself. Follow the guides directions all will go smoothly and you will have a blast! I definitely recommend this excursion because everything was better than I had expected. Lunch was also yummy!
We had a fabulous time at Guachepelin. We were picked up by Paul, our driver, tour guide, and escort, at the JW Marriott at 6:00am. Yes, it was a long day, but yes,
it was worth it! After picking up several other people at various hotels, we made it to Guachepelin and began our canopy tour. The guys who run the zip lines are professional, safety-conscious, and very nice. The zip lines are incredible, with some going over the trees, while others go across rivers. There is one platform which allows you to repel down and then rock climb back up to the platform. You can choose to do it or not. There’s also a Tarzan swing from one side of the river to the other. It was all a blast. After zip lining, we rode horses through the forest. The trail was rocky, but the horses were sure-footed and very well behaved. It was a typical trail ride. The horses followed along, mostly walking, a few slow trots to catch up with horse in front of you. As a seasoned rider, I was pleased to see that they require helmets for the ride. (Actually, all 3 experiences require helmets) We then took a short bus ride to the beginning of the white water river tubing. Each individual has his or her own tube. The ride is crazy, but soooo fun! We were in the tubes for about an hour. You will experience about 25 rapids with some “lazy river” tubing in between. We felt safe the entire time, with the guides helping us through the rapids and bumping us back into the flow of the river. My 17 and 20 year old daughters wanted to go again after we were done. It was about 2:15 when we returned to the lobby area and then we went to the dining room and ate a typical Costa Rican meal. After, we got back into our van with Paul and drove to the hot springs for a dip. It was well with the time and cost of this amazing day!
My husband and I had a blast on this excursion. The ziplining portion was more than I thought it would which turned out to be amazing! Since we were on our honeymoon, we felt it was worth them taking the photos so we didn't have to worry about the hassle of keeping up with our phones or go-pros. You get so hot after ziplining and horseback riding that it was nice to cool down with the river tubing which was so much fun. I highly recommend this excursion!
the tour was amazing. the water tubing was so much fun. it had rapid falls and was relaxing in between. our tour guide was great! he was helpful and he was very fun. everyone there was just so warm and nice. when we did the zip lining, there was one you jump off, please make sure ladies that your nails are cut because you have to climb the wall once you land and you don't want to rip your nail off. highly recommended to have water shoes since you'll be doing the water tubing. we also did a mud bath and hot spring. it was very enjoyable. the hot springs are man made but the water is geothermic water heated from the volcano. they also have waterfalls in the same park so if your interested in doing more activities you can go to the water falls which where so so beautiful. highly recommended.
Though weather played a part in our rating, this was a good tour. Hotel pick up was on time. Driver up to the mountain was friendly and chatty. Since the weather was nice in the morning, we did the river tubing first which was nice. Then we did the buffet lunch with all the groups. Then our team was going to do the zip-lining. But a storm had moved in and lightning struct a tree next to our group and then zapped the line when the instructor was demonstrating. They decided to postpone zipping and we did the hot springs instead. Nice and relaxing. Then took us back to zip-lining. After a brief overview we felt the instructions were hurried and under prepared us. We zip-lined in other countries and felt perfectly safe/educated It was still raining and rumbling so we did not feel comfortable doing this activity even though most of our group went ahead. Since the tours were very delayed because of the switching around of activities, we were given private horseback riding while the other group zipped. There was not enough time for them to go horseback riding. Overall good activity, but for a 12 hour package - one would expect to get all the listed adventures.
Best part of our trip to Costa Rica. The tour guide and driver were awesome and fun, the food was delicious, and the activities were phenomenal! It was also really nice to be able to buy a picture package of our zip lining experience too. The horseback riding portion was a little hot and uncomfortable, but honestly, the whole thing was well worth the money and we felt safe and had a blast!
This was a phenomenal experience! Four different activities made for a great day. The food at lunch was excellent and our guide took care of us the whole way. Zip-lining was fantastic and the scenery was absolutely beautiful! The horses were well-trained which made it a fun experience. The hot springs were awesome at the end of a busy day.
I was really looking forward to this tour, as a friend from high school recommended it to me and it sounded fun. I've done plenty of zip lining in the past, like in places such as Whistler, Hawaii, and New Zealand. Which were all amazing. I was REALLY disappointed with the zip lining on this tour. The lines were short. Too short. I also didn't think the environment around us was anything that was like, WOW, this is incredible! with the exception of maybe two areas by a river. It also took forever. Just to get going on the zip lining there was a line of like 20 people and we were standing in the heat waiting to get started. It was annoying. After zip lining we went horseback riding, which was fun. I'd never ridden a horse before, so it was something new and I enjoyed it. The hike we did with the horses was, again, not anything spectacular. We were in a forest-esque environment, but it wasn't lush and green like I'd expected. Also took forever. Now, the river tubing was FUN. It took a while, like everything else, but it was awesome. Definitely the best thing on this tour. The hot springs I could have easily skipped out on, I didn't particularly enjoy that part and by then just wanted to get back to our hotel. Some notable things: our tour guide was great! So attentive and sweet. The place we ate lunch at was SO GOOD. I loved the food there. The guys who worked at the zip lining place were also sweet, very kind. The gentleman who took our photographs as I wouldn't recommend bringing your phone with you was really awesome and got some great shots. You only pay 45 to have great pictures taken, me and my friend took advantage of that. Oh, and the European Coffee Shop you stop at to take a break on the drive to get to everything is really yummy- try the banana bread! All in all, not the best tour I've been on, but it's worth it for all the activities you get to do. Also, make sure to bring mosquito repellent.
