Kotor - Nuestra señora de las rocas - Ex base submarina - Isla Mamula - Cueva azul
Our group of three all loved this tour! We were picked up by immaculate speedboat at the port and whisked away to our first stop...Our Lady of the Rock. Our friendly and knowledgeable guide told us all about this island and church, then allowed us to wander on our own! Next, we went to the submarine tunnels! Wow! The history of these was very interesting and our guide took us in one of them- - -incredible! We stopped at Manula Island which was their little Alcatraz. You can’t go on to the island due to construction. Then, on to the Blue Cave where after telling about the formation of the cave, etc. we were told we could swim into the cave! Well worth swimming further than our boat could go. We saw bats, but they were high up and were not bothering anyone.
This was an absolutely fantastic trip! If you cruise, you know that you travel with 20,000 of your closest friends and towns can be overrun by the passengers. HOWEVER, this trip was the exact opposite. We simply hopped off the ship, walked the 300 feet outside the port and found our meeting point. We were on a new personal sized boat with one other couple. We were able to chat and relax with plenty of space. We enjoyed visiting Our Lady of the Rock church. I had my swimsuit on so I couldn't go inside which was ok. We still took lots of pictures on the island and enjoyed the story behind the church. The submarine base was interesting too, The history teacher in me geeked out a little. My favorite part of the trip was the Blue Cave. We went on the 7:00am trip knowing the Cave can get a bit crowded. Please note that we were on a cruise so the number of people at the Cave when a ship is not there is probably a lot different. Since so many other visitors wanted to see this beautiful spot, we went to another spot which was just as beautiful but had less boat traffic to swim. Boating accidents can happen regardless of whether you are on a shore excursion or personal tour, so it was nice to have someone looking out for our safety. The locals think the water is cold but I jumped right in! The seas were calm and the water was amazing. I enjoyed the entire thirty minute swim time. Many thanks for showing my husband and I an absolutely amazing time in Kotor.
