This sushi-making class was informative and so much fun. In a small group setting, my wife and I worked with Mieko, our wonderful instructor, to create a delicious meal that we then got to enjoy alongside a beautiful Japanese garden. We really appreciated the small cookbooks given to us, which we plan to use in the future. I highly recommend this class to anybody visiting Kyoto!
The setting was lovely, the tutors, Meiko and Yoko, were clear and kind and the teaching was direct enough to learn from but hands on enough to feel as though we were having a real go at it.
The eating part afterwards was very elegant and pleasant.
The tutors were thoughtful enough to have small stools to sit on as westerners are so after uncomfortable at the very low tables. A recipe book was provided for us to use in the future.
This sushi making class was the first thing my wife and I did while in Kyoto and definitely was one of the highlights of our trip. The building was easy enough to get to. A short subway ride from the main Kyoto station and then a few block walk through some back streets. Our host Yumiko Ueda was wonderful. She was very easy to talk to and knowledgeable regarding Japanese cuisine and I tend to ask a lot of questions. We really enjoyed learning about exactly what we were making. The picture in this booking matched our meal to a tee. We also received a Japanese home cooking pamphlet so we could try other Japanese recipes on our own when we got home. We truly loved our cooking experience with Yumiko Ueda and would highly recommend this tour.
