Took the west rim vip tour. We were part of the accident that took place on Las Vegas blvd Tuesday. This was a horrible circumstance which was no fault of the driver. I am leaving this review mostly to acknowledge the professionalism of the company and Ralph in particular. He took an impossible situation and tried his best to keep a bus full of tourists happy and provide a nice experience at the canyon. I think most of us would have been ok to just cancel the whole tour, but the company got us on another bus and driver (thank you Joe) and made the best of it. Ralph if you are reading this, thank you.
My only small complaint separate to this is that this is billed as a vip tour. However the first bus was old and not comfortable for a long day of driving. I would have expected a luxury bus that other companies provide. We did end up with one after the accident, however I think it’s misleading to call it a vip tour with the original bus provided.
Well the Grand Canyon is spectacular you cannot write a bad review on that as it is what it is a force of nature, majestic, brilliant, frightening, beautiful. The tour company however, the guide was Ralph a comedian , well what can I say he never stopped talking the whole trip and he had the most irritating voice imaginable. Some of what he said was interesting he had done his homework, as he kept telling us. The other major bugbear was the bus had no air conditioning, it was melting 39 degrees Celsius and no air con! Come on like, I think Ralph kept talking to try to distract us from the heat. Overall it is worth doing as it is a short trip just 3 hours and you see the Hoover Dam as well. If you can afford a better company than do it for the air con and a more reserved guide.
I have been to Vegas many times and have been to the canyon before , but I have to say this was by far the best trip from pick up to drop off we had a great time .Our tour guide Jason was hilarious and so much fun full of banter which I love , it was certainly a trip with a difference. We went on the skywalk that was AMAZING and the views breathtakingly beautiful.
Breakfast and lunch was included both I have to say were delicious. Last but by no means least a thank you to Steve the driver he got us there and back in one piece.
We loved this attraction! Not just because we got engaged during the excursion but because Steve and Ralph made it highly informative and fun. Ralph's passion for Vegas life made the long drive to the West Rim so much fun. He managed our expectations, set clear timelines and kept the mood light and upbeat.
Having already been to the Hoover Dam, we appreciated that it was a short stop which allowed us to spend more time at the Canyon.
The Sky Walk is a must even for the timid. Eagle Point and Guano Point were spectacular and worth exploring. The Dude Ranch was "meh" but truth be told, we probably would've spent more time there if we brought our kids.
*Other Highlights & Tips*
- The breakfast was very well organized and the food was delicious
- We had the lunch at Guano Point. Go for the chicken instead of the beef and look out for the ravens!!
- Bring a sweater for the bus as the AC is on full blast
- Bring a hat, sunscreen and decent walking shoes
- Get all your texting, internet browsing and social media activities out of the way before you reach Dolan Springs as there's no cell phone service from that point to the Canyon
- Out of respect for the other passengers on the bus, try to avoid making loud and long phone calls
All in all it was a great experience and we would highly recommend it!
Special thanks again to Steve and Ralph for the engagement gift. You big softies!
