I left the hotel very early! There were only two of us on the tour so we got a lot of face time with the guide. The site is so very important it's a shame more folks don't know about it! We were treated to a great local lunch spot. It was a day I will remember. Just a final shout out to my guide Jesus ... He was great!
The tour operator phoned my hotel announcing the exact pick up time. I was picked up on time by a friendly fellow, named Jesus. It turned out to be a tour in a private car together with a another traveller. The guide turned out to be knowledgable about Caral and translated conscienticiously what the local guide had to say when wandering around the site of Caral. Caral itself is one of the wonders of the world. The site is well organized, facilities tasteful and clean, the exhibition very informative, comprehensive. The promised food was acceptable, transportation excellent. A great tour.
This was an amazing trip to the oldest known pyramids in the world! They predate those in Egypt, Mexico and China. And also predate ceramics and weapons and the Incas. Discovered very recently, only 20 have been uncovered so far but hundreds more exist. The woman who made the discovery was there giving a private tour to a couple of people. To the locals, this is the most important archaeological site in Peru as it is the beginning of their history. Well worth the long 3 hour drive from Lima. Not something you'll see offered as a shore excursion. Our guide, Jesus, picked us up on time and even though the main road was flooded due to recent rainfall in the mountains, he found an alternate route to get us there. Once near the site we were again threatened by road closures so he got a cart pulled by a motor bike which is usually used by the workers to get to and from work and put us in the back of it for the 10 minute or so ride up to the entrance. Wouldn't have wanted to miss it!
