Disappointed that we couldn’t make it to the Ballestas Islands due to weather, but our guides came up with a great alternative! They were very knowledgeable and friendly. We had a great time- would recommend.
It was not a private pick as it was stated. The tour guide did not explain again. It also was 7 hours in a van. The driver took back streets to get back and based on google maps he was going in circles. It would be faster to take the main roads.
The description of the tour was not accurate and it should state the times between activities and how time at each activity. Most of the time was driving from place to place not doing the activity
The Ballestas are amazing - and what you'd expect motoring amid crashing waves, viewing tens of thousands of Guanay Cormorants, Sea Lions, Humboldt Penguins and Blue-footed Boobies. The islands reek of ammonia from the guano. The downsides: throngs of tourist-filled boats jockeying for position, and no ability to step foot onto the islands.
Huacachina is massive, and if you've never seen a desert, will be impressive, and fun. The dune buggy veers Mad Max-like for a 30-40-minute joy ride with a chance to 'snowboard' on your stomach down sand dunes. Although it's fun, it feels utterly manufactured for tourism. The 'oasis' is an aggressive tourist-catching machinery made up of two dozen buildings blocking your view of the actual water, manned by aggressive hucksters selling water and sunglasses, and marring what should be a pristine environment, given the fact that it's one of the only true desert oases in the Americas.
For the nature aspects of the experience, I give it 4 stars. For the tourism machine, 2 stars.
In theory, this tour is incredible. in reality, it was a complete waste of money. We could have easily planned the trip and travel for less than half the cost we paid. First of all, for it to be a "personal" tour, we were thrown into large groups at each place and many times without an English guide as promised. Our driver was just that and no help other than dropping us off at places.
The boat ride was good, but only because we were lucky enough to have seats in the front.
Sandboarding was complete joke considering they were pieces of plywood with cheap Velcro bindings (unlike the pictures) and the guide only encouraged you to go straight down on your stomach. In addition, we were thrown in the back row with a bunch of children on a large buggy, when we paid for a private tour and no one spoke English as was promised.
The Pisco tour could have been neat but again we were dropped off by our driver and thrown into a large group from a tour bus. (Again...there was a reason we paid for private, but didn't get it.) if I had wanted the bus tour, I could have paid 1/4 of the price for the same experience I received.
Our ten day trip to Peru was amazing, but this was the worst day yet the most expensive. it was a sort of fun day, but not what we expected for the price we paid. We just tried to make the most of it. It was very impersonal, did not include fun facts or details about the places we saw that typically would come from a private tour, and was NOT as advertised. we basically paid for a private driver, not a private tour.
Very disappointing and I feel very ripped off. wish I could have a refund and a day back in Peru.
We had a great day on this tour. We went with Lima Discover and Andres Del Carpin was our tour guide. The whole day ran very smoothly and the activities were heaps of fun. The boat trip around Ballestas Island was lovely and we saw penguins and sea lions and lots of birds, next was the Paracas Reserve and the dune buggying! Last was the visit to see how Pisco is made and a lovely lunch. This was a really good order to do things in with the activities first up and then lunch and a drink after.
Andres was a great guide and driver and very helpful. I would recommend this as a way to get out of Lima and see a bit more of Peru.
We had such a great time on this tour. The tour guide and driver were both a lot of fun and very flexible in letting us decide how much time we wanted to spend on activities. Definitely recommend this as a day trip from Lima for anyone who wants to see more of the coast.
This was an AMAZING tour. We did this tour on Apr. 7th. We were picked up on time at our hotel in Lima at 4:30am and were driven in a comfortable air conditioned van over to Paracas for our 1st stop of the tour. We were a total of 5 people on the tour and our driver and Andres who was our tour guide. Upon arrival to Paracas we stopped at a restaurant for quick bites and restroom break before heading to the boat that would take us to the Ballestas Islands. The boat ride was with about 45 people and and showed us the Candelabra and continued to the Islands. It was extremely beautiful to see untouched islands just visited by wildlife such as penguins, sea lions, pelicans, crabs and so on. After this we hopped on to our van and were taken over to Huacachina. This was a BLAST! Andres and our buggy driver took us on an adventure in the desert and speeding, swerving, and jumping over the dunes. We then had the option of going sand boarding. We started with the baby dune and worked our way up to bigger dunes, and also visited the oasis. I cannot express how much fun we had in the desert. Followed by the desert we drove over to a restaurant where we had a traditional Peruvian food to that area and then we took a small winery tour and sampled some great tasting wines. After our adventures for the day we started our drive back to Lima.
The tour was perfect, it was rushed and you had time to take pictures and enjoy the sights. I have never had a tour guide like Andres, who was very attentive and not rushing you to get through the tour quickly. If we ever return to Lima, definitely doing this tour again or any other tour with Lima Discover and Andres. Thank you for the amazing time.
