Salwa was a very informative tour guide! We were met at the train station upon arrival. Though our train was almost two hours late, the company was still patiently waiting. We were taken to meet Salwa who was our guide for the day. She was kind enough to stop and purchase us snacks, water, and soda before we headed off to our first tour stop. She is quite the educated egyptologist. Very informative and made it all interesting. She was very patient with taking pictures as well. Though a day was not enough for Luxor and all it has to offer, Salwa made the most of the day for us. Then tour company even made sure we got back to our train and checked into the righ car and cabins before leaving. We felt very well taken care of.
An absolutely fascinating day and an experience which exceeded my expectations by some considerable measure. I came away hugely better informed about the area and its history and am keen to return to see the bits I missed. Luxor city itself is appealing as a destination so it's easy to make that decision. The key to the success of the day, -aside from the magnificence of the surroundings, was Victor, my guide and expert for the day. An engaging and very articulate Egyptologist, he provided a narrative that put everything into context. I understand the 5 stars to mean 'amazing and highly recommended' but I don't actually think the description does Victor's skills, knowledge and enthusiasm justice. An easy 6 stars.
One more point, why bother going as part of a group tour when you can have your own expert who tailors your day to your requirements? The cost of a private tour is frankly peanuts for most westerners and the returns, -well, they'll stay with you for the rest of your life.
