The day started badly due to some miscommunication regarding details of the hotel pickup. The manager was very rude to me and to the hotel staff who called on our behalf . Fortunately, we had a decent wonderful man as our guide who made the day very enjoyable and worth all the unpleasantness we had experienced with the manager earlier. The weather was not too good but we made the best of it. Well worth the money.
Picked up from our hotel by a very pleasant and informative guide. Loved the personal service and was so much nicer than being on a coach with time restraints. Guide never rushed us. Would highly recommend as we saw so much on one day but at our pace. First time we used Viator but did 4 excursions with them and will always use them from now on
A fantastic trip to the South which we would recommend to any one looking for a fun and cultural guided tour. Our driver was very professional throughout the whole day and we felt very safe. Our tour guide, Dhiren, was very friendly and knowledgeable and was able to answer all of questions, no matter how obscure. The tour included trips to the majority of the popular spots in the South including the 7 coloured earth, Hindu temple at Grand Bassin and the Chamarel Rum Distillery. All in all a very enjoyable day!
Dhiren and our driver provided a fascinating look into the culture of Mauritius.
All the main attractions are covered in this tour and Dhiren was very knowledgeable
about all the historical and cultural aspects of the spots we visited.
I especially recommend choosing this tour over renting a car because you definitely
need some good skills to drive in Mauritius. Our driver was very good and experienced and
we felt we were in good hands.
All in all, great tour, we learned a lot and got to see most of what the island has to offer.
This was our first trip using viator and we were delighted with the whole experience. We were the only couple doing the tour so we were spoilt, driven around in a car by our guide Dhiren who gave us amazing insight to life on Mauritius and the history behind such a beautiful island. He answered any questions that we had and if we wanted to stop and take pictures all we had to do was ask - if we didnt fancy doing anything then we simply moved on, it was a superb flexible way to tour. Upon chatting about our love of Mauritian cuisine, Dhiren took a little detour to a food vendor and bought us some dholl puris which we happily ate as we drove to our next destination.
There were many highlights to this trip, the ship models were amazing, great views all around the island, Grand Bassin, monkeys, red pineapple, trying tamarind, drinking sugarcane/ginger drink, superb Mauritian curry lunch - so many little bits to the tour that made it really special.
A minor negative to the tour was at the Chamarel distillery but this was no fault of our guide. The Chamarel tour would have been great if there were less people involved - we ended up in a group of around 20 people, most who weren't interested in the process or the lady giving the tour so just got in the way or rudely barged past. The tasting had plenty of samples, the rum was nothing special if you know your rum, but a very nice scenic distillery nonetheless.
It was a long day but definitely worth the money and experience. We'd like to thank Dhiren again for such a wonderful day and we're already missing Mauritius!
Fantastic trip which enabled us to visit the main sites in the area. We had our driver /guide to ourselves which was great. He was very friendly and informative and discussed what we would be covering before we left - so we omitted the shops! The scenery was fantastic and the highlights were the Hindu temple and the rum distillery. Lunch was simple but very nice. All in all well worth the price.
Would really recommend this trip as a way to see Mauritius, we ended up having a private tour in the end for two people, although the driver did tell us the maximum is normally 6 people, so the group sizes are still relatively small. We had a full day and saw so much, our driver was really informative and friendly. I would recommend taking a couple of bottles of water for the car, the lunch was good but not what we initially expected, it was in a local restaurant but the food was good. As most of the holiday, we spent by the beach and sea it was good to see the other side of Mauritius and see how green and beautiful the island is. The Rum tasting was amazing. Overall really good value for money.
