Thinking about a day trip out of Rome to Florence? This one is good, but it will be a long day. I was happy the van was very comfortable and leather seats. The driver was great, though drove like a bat out of Hell. Very safe, but fast. The guide was nice, but her command of the English language could have been better. She tried to provide some history along the way, but that early in the morning people wanted to relax and get that first cup espresso. Once we arrived to Pisa, she was more in her element, enough time to see two out of the three attractions. Tower tickets sold out- but no matter not enough time. Florence was divine! Lunch with the group was excellent, the main attraction was worth every minute! The David is incredible, local tour guide was top notch, very thorough in his approach. More than enough time to see it and city and enjoy the sites for the time allotted. In the end, good day tour, but long. I would recommend if you have the time.
Trip was exactly as described. We left online with a total of 6 people. Both the driver a the tour guild were very friendly. The driver did not speak English and the Guide spoke fairly good English. It was a full day. From 6:30 am to 8:30 pm. We saw everything planned. We did find it to be a little rushed though. The van was new and roomy. We made washroom breaks regularly. Great value for the money spent.
We had such a fun time on what ended up being a private tour for me and my mom. Antonieta was not only very knowledgeable about Florence and Pisa but she made the experience so much fun! We laughed the whole time! Prepare yourself for the long drive to Pisa (3 and half hours) but it’s a great taste of the two cities!
Whilst in Rome, consider day trips to nearby destinations. Our guide arrived at our hotel at the indicated 7:00am time sharp. They had already picked up a single traveler before us, and we made a quick extra stop to pick up a mother and daughter. That’s it. Five souls to sour group. The drive is LONG, so the first stop was at a gas station/convenience store with added coffee and sandwich bar. Seemed like a good idea. However, several groups seemed to arrive within five minutes and the small store was overwhelmed with people demanding a quick breakfast meal. Talk about chaos! Orderly lines for service seem to be an alien concept to most. Credit card terminal was on the fritz, so bad luck for those of us not carrying euros left over from the night before. First stop was Pisa and, while it’s relatively close to Rome, and we’d arrived around 10:45, the place was already packed. Be prepared to exercise patience. After about an hour’s worth of picture ops, we proceeded to Florence. Once there, at our guide’s suggestion, we had lunch in front of the market at a place called Trattoria Vecchio Mercato where we shared a delicious 800gr T-bone steak. Afterwards, we were taken by our assigned and very knowledgeable guide for a tour around the city with the “de rigeur” explanations and history lessons. Our tour of Firenze ended at the Ponte Vecchio and culminated at the Terrazze Michelangelo for some breathtaking views of the city and the Arno river. Selfie ops took the last of our phones’ batteries. Got back to Rome in time for dinner. Overall great experience. We highly recommend.
Our guide, Cristina, had a lot of knowledge. This was a private tour with just our family of 3. The trip was long. When one of us fell asleep, she made rude statements about we were missing. Once at the Tower of Pisa, we were lead on a very quick tour of the beautiful cathedral. Once we left, we were unable to return. The guide wanted us to hear the sound of the baptismal bldg.It was beautiful but the bldg itself was bare. We were then told that we could look at the Tower of Pisa for one hour and take pictures. I would have rather spent the time looking at the artwork in the cathedral. Our time in Florence was sooo short. I think it should have been more than a day trip from Rome. The drive time was much longer than the time we spent touring.
We are in Rome for a week & did a day trip to Pisa & Florence. Well worth it. Would love to go back & spend a night in Florence. Tour guides were great as was our driver. If your not sure, just do it! You won’t be disappointed!
Good way to see Florence and Pisa in one day from Rome. The driver (Adam) and guide (Giuseppe) were very nice, they showed up on time and were very professional the entire trip. After picking us up from our hotel, we traveled to Pisa, which took approximately 4 hours (including 15 minute break for snacks/bathroom). The drive was enjoyable with nice views of the Italy countryside. We spent 1 hour at the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the neighboring cathedral, which was enough time. From Pisa, we then traveled 1 hour to Florence. In Florence we had lunch at a nice restaurant recommended by our tour guide. After lunch, we spent 2.5 hours walking around Florence and visiting the museums with the local guide. There was also an opportunity to spend a little time shopping in Florence. After Florence, we traveled 3 hours back to Rome, which made for a long day, but we had unforgettable memories.
