Our guide, Francesca, was absolutely excellent. She made the tour very interesting by adding the touch of having books to show us what the buildings were like when built. Her knowledge of the area was invaluable and would answer questions to the full. We were very lucky, there were only our small group of 4 friends which made it even more special. Each entrance we went to we were fast tracked and got in very quickly. Tips would be, it was very hot and mostly in the open so take drinks, hats ,use sunscreen and good footwear. There was slight confusion about the meeting point as we went to the colesseum but we were meant to meet near the Vatican so please check that. The bargain price of the tour does not include admission as that was an extra 14 each which we thought was very cheap. It does state that admission is not included and we were prepared.
Thank you Francesca you were wonderful.
The tour guide was friendly and informative and able to answer all of the questions that we had. We were part of a particularly small group of only 4 of us so we definitely had that personal experience. However, although this is a walking tour of the Colosseum you actually meet the Tour Guide at their offices near the Vatican City, You then travel back to the Colosseum via the Metro additional cost before beginning the Tour, this was particularly frustrating given that we had travelled past the Colosseum to get to the Office to meet the guide. Completely unnecessary and added on an extra 40 mins of travelling that we didn't need to do.
Also note that this price does not include the entrance tickets to the Colosseum, this is not explained before purchasing and will cost you and extra 14 Euros per person which you pay for at the tour guides office, which is probably why they make you meet there. They are not skip the line tickets as suggested, they are no more than reserved tickets which you could do yourself online. You then join a huge queue of other people who have reserved their tickets. In fact, when we attended, the reserved ticket queue was longer than the queue to buy tickets on the day!!
The tour was very long and in my view could have been shortened somewhat by they unnecessary travelling etc.
This tour is really worth it, as the group size is smaller, you get a more personable tour, instead of other tour groups which are 20 members, this tour for us was no more then 6-8 people. We had a wonderful English speaking guide Jessica who helped us understand the Roman Forum, the city of Rome and the appreciation of the Colosseum. The tour guide knew her information well! There is alot of walking in Roman Forum, but after that, you will get to have all the time in the world for Colosseum where the tour ends. This is truly in need of skip the line, if you don't do skip the line, you will be waiting in line for hours, to go through purchasing of the tickets as well as security. Please save your time and purchase skip the line tickets, that is the most important thing about tours in Italy. Also there is no discount or cheaper if you wait in line over in Italy and spend euro's purchase your tickets before going to Italy, so you can have the Skip the Line experience, I can not stress enough, that the lines to Colosseum if you don't have skip the line was over 2 hour wait times! One thing I did try the water in Italy especially at the Roman Forum, and it was Wonderful, I did not get sick, I believe what our tour guide said, save your money on water as Rome has wonderful Water, just spend the money on tours, wine, and souvenirs! Water is fine throughout Rome with the many fountains the city has! You will see alot of tourists trying the water in Roman Forum, but try it at your own risk! Our Group personally had no problems with the water.
