I have mixed feelings of the tour. About half the tour was of the Jewish Museum and temple. The other half was of a Buddhist Temple and seeing how Chinese residents live today. If your primary purpose is the Jewish aspect, I would recommend doing it on your own since Museum is self explanatory.
We had the most moving experiance at the synagogue as we went to see where my father had gone when he fled from the Nazis he spent eight years in China and could not get out my mother who fled to Australia spent those eight years trying to findhim and getting him out so they could be married.
Mary our guide was fantastic and took us around and had greatknowledge of what had happened at that time.
We had a wonderful tour with Masin. He met us early at the appointed location. Masin was articulate and knowledgeable. We walked to the Moshe Synagogue and on the way he gave us the history of it. Masin was able to answer all our questions. Masin guided us through the museum and highlighted the important men who assisted the Jewish people during this period in history. We ended the tour with a visit to his grandfather's home who had been a photographer during World War II. We highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning about Jewish history in Shanghai.
Highly recommend our tour. Mason our tour guide was extremely personable and informative about the history and culture of the Jewish people who came to Shanghai during the early 1900's and also during the persecution of the Jews in Eastern Europe. you will not be disappointed with this tour!
Museum was amazing but could easily have done it on our own. After the museum which we felt was a bit rushed we walked around the ghetto area and then were taken to a Buddhist temple. Was not really interested in that. Would have liked more time in the museum. Also, original booking said pick up and drop off in hotel, but in Shanghai we were told that we had to find our own rides taxis there and back. Whole thing seemed like a bit of a rip off.
