An incredible day. the weather was perfect not a cloud in the sky and of course that just made it all very special.
We enjoyed amazing views of mountains, waterfalls, local life and the sea and even spotted a black bear.
Picked up on time at our city centre hotel at 8.30 am by our driver and guide, John. He was brilliant. Provided us with insights, his local knowledge and lots of tips, Large comfortable coach with a wc.
Great journey along Howe Sound then the Sea to Sky route to Squamish and Whistler. Provided with gondola tickets at Squamish that took us to the mountain tops overlooking the sea inlet and mountains. Here we had two hours and so walked an easy 2 km Panoramic route, well signed, through the forest to more incredible views. Highly recommend. Lots of opportunities to eat on top or at the base.
From here we drove to Whistler via a short stop at a beautiful waterfall. We had 4 hours free time in Whistler. The coach dropped us off right in the village centre where its a short walk to the gondola that takes you up Whistler mountain to the Peak to Peak. We had ordered tickets online first so avoided the fairly long lines but its worth checking the weather forecasts first.
The ride up is spectacular but once on top the views were just incredible. Plenty to do. Take the Peak to Peak gondola to Blackcomb mountain, walking routes, places to eat, or a short walk to a chairlift that takes you even higher up the mountain where there is a bridge built across a deep gully. Incredible views, a little chilly and lots of fresh air, but well worth it.
We spent three hours getting up the mountain, exploring and then the return ride down. Enjoyed every minute, even spotted a black bear.
Our remaining time was spent in the village, all very pleasant with bars, restaurants and shops.
The return journey to Vancouver took 90 minutes with great views again of the sea and mountains.
What an amazing day. Great excursion, a long day but so many wows !
Our driver John was excellent, so professional. Thank you.
Really great day out. Driver had a good sense of humour and we got to see and learn lots. I would recommend purchasing a ticket on the Peak 2 Peak gondola in Whistler - I had plenty of time for a sit down lunch, sightseeing on top of both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains and to wander through the village. Try cows icecream - you won't regret it!
Great experience overall. I really loved the Sea to Sky part. The only thing I would change would be the amount of time spent at Whistler Village - we had 4-5 hours by ourselves there. The shops were a giant maze, so most people were worried about getting lost if they wondered around too far. I would recommend trying to plan a few activities at Whistler in advance so you're not stuck walking in circles for over 4 hours. I had originally planned on doing the peak-to-peak tour, but it was closed for the season, so I ended up just sitting around for waiting pickup along with several other tourists. Beautiful place, just needs to be less time there or more structured activities offered.
Awesome sights and a great driver/guide! He was the perfect mix of information and personality, and was extremely knowledgeable and professional. Great stops along the way. We spent a little more time in Whistler than my group needed, but none of us are big on shopping, and probably should have planned a hike. I'd definitely recommend this trip to anyone! Just do a little research and have a game plan for filling your time at Whistler.
Awesome guide/bus driver Gord - lots of great information and lots of 'unscheduled' stops. Whistler is well worth every minute and spend the extra for the PEAK 2 PEAK gondola. Stunning, breath-taking, beautiful - not enough adjectives to describe it. Would suggest actually staying overnight in Whistler - so much to do it is not possible in the 4 hours you get there. Make sure to wear good running shoes - there is a 2 hour stop at the Sea to Sky gondola with numerous short hiking trails but loafers and flip flops will not cut it.
