The actual tour was ok. The tour guide was not great and he did not entertain questions. We went on the tour to get the reservation for the museum. The museum was GREAT. That experience made the tour tolerable.
The tour bus was on time and very well air conditioned. The Guide was knowledgeable and provided information integral to the theme of the tour. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to learn about the impact African Americans had on the development of this great country.
Tour guide Kenny was great, loved the tour. Left ON TIME which was great and made all the stops along the way landing at the African American History museum exactly at 1:30! This tour is a must for anyone interested in this history, and a great value. The tour of the Frederick Douglass house is outstanding and on this tour it was not just the stop over but the full house tour. We have had good luck with all the Viator tours and this one is highly recommended, nice comfortable bus with cold water.
In the fewest words: Arrogant and Incompetent. "Mr Kenny" as he apparently liked being called, spent way too much time on personal calls and missed key landmarks, like the old Post Office that is now a Trump facility. When a guest spotted the Hotel and called it out, Mr Kenny USED HIS MICROPHONE to dress down the customer loudly and rudely under the guise that no one could hear him. Never did get any information about the Hotel. Mr Kenny spouted many personal opinions irrevalant to any historical facts. One example was when he loudly proclaimed to everyone "Just because you're educated doesn't mean you're smart." Any educated person is at least smart enough to know they should be educated. Mr Kenny needs to know that just because you think you are smart doesn't mean you're educated. He illustrated that point effectively by using words he clearly did not know and in some cases making up words. Mr Kenny apparently loves the sound of his own voice so much that no other opinion or input mattered. Mr Kenny failed to effectively manage tour progress and when we got to the Museum, we barely had enough time to get ahead of the general admission crowds lined up outside the building. On one stop, Mr Kenny nearly left a particpant at the MLK Memorial. Only the protests of other passengers prevented that somewhat physically limited passenger from being left behind. It doesn't take an education to count to 14, Mr Kenny. I had excitement and hope for this tour and Mr Kenny dimmed that experience for me by 50%. Lastly, we did not find out we had to find our way back to our embarkation point until we were about to be dropped off at the museum about a mile away from where we started. We should have been at least given guidance on how to return to the Navy Memorial. Easy to do better than Mr Kenny.
The tour was wonderful. Our guide was knowledgeable and gave a historical perspective. We have lived in DC area twice. This tour gave us access to the new museum and we saw areas of Washington that we had not visited while residents. It broadened our experience and understanding of the area from the African American viewpoint.
Great experience, gained a wealth of information about the African American communities and contributions in DC. Tour of Frederick Douglas house was amazing. Kenny and the driver were excellent. National Museum of African American History and Culture is well designed and addresses all aspects of AA experiences. I recommend this tour!
The narrator did an excellent job. I am sorry but I can't remember the ladie's name. I would have liked the bus to have been on time and not to change the pick up location. Otherwise the trip was very good and the narrator apologized and made up for time lost.
The tour was better than my daughter and I expected. Kenny made it even more enjoyable because of the history and the knowledge that he shared with us. He went above and beyond to take one of the ladies by the hospital that she first worked. The driver was exceptional.
