The reasons I am giving two starts is...

The reasons I am giving two starts is for the fallowing. First: as a solo traveler I couldn't buy just one ticket, two or more people. Ok I got tickets for two travelers so I could go to Copan with a tour and a tour guide. Second: I was picked up in my hotel by a public transport from Antigua to Copan picking up other people in the way. Third: I was dropped off in a coner of a Hostel in Copan, the driver had no idea of my 2-day trip. Fourth: After getting some helped from the lady at the hostel, a person from the hotel where I was spending the night picked me up. And after an hour a person with motor taxi, picked me up and took me to the Copan Ruins Park. I never saw the 2-day trip to Copan tour guide. The only guide I had was the one in the Park. And If I wanted to see the rest of the ruins outside of the park plus the museums I had to paid extra for the entrance, the guide fee and the motor taxi fees. I really think this trip is worth taking but for the price and what I got for it, I think it was a miss leading information. If I had know all that prior to go to Copan and would had done it on my own. The ruins is a nice site to see but I pay too much money for what I got in return by Voyageur Tours.

Overall, I'm pleased with what we got here. I was able to book, from the United States, a two day trip from Antigua, Guatemala, to see the Copan Mayan ruins and then return to Antigua. We were booked in what we thought was a very good hotel in Copan Ruinas, Honduras. We were assigned a very nice guide who spoke good English. Also, our group shuttle to and from Copan Ruinas seemed professionally run. With that said, for those considering booking this trip, there are a couple of things worth bearing in mind. First, it helps to understand going in how this works. Viator acts a broker here. Once you book with Viator, they contact a knowledgeable local travel agent, who in turn arranges everything, including transportation with a small group tourist shuttle. The agent contact me and had a package delivered to our room in Antigua with tickets for the group shuttle before we were to make the trip. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, I didn't quite realize that's what was going on here. Specifically, I didn't quite piece together that the individual who contacted us with an itinerary and other materials was a local travel agent, not a just a local tour guide or driver. I also didn't realize that we would be using a group shuttle that would need time to make several stops in Antigua before leaving for Honduras. Our materials said we would be picked up at 4 a.m. But, because our room was on the east side of Antigua, the shuttle didn't arrive at our room until 4:30 a.m. after picking up everyone else scheduled to ride that shuttle. Unfortunately, because I didn't understand what was happening, the poor local travel agent who booked our trip received a early morning phone call from me wondering what was going on. I feel bad for making that call and waking him up, but I didn't realize what was going on and was concerned we would be left behind. Once we got past that confusion and got on the shuttle, the trip went smoothly. I was glad for the opportunity to see more of the country from a shuttle and to see some truly remarkable ruins with a very competent tour guide. We also enjoyed exploring the nearby municipality, Copan Ruinas. In fact, we were even able to work in a side trip on our own dime to Macaw Mountain just by hailing a local tuk tuk the next morning before we returned to Antigua. Macaw Mountain is worth a visit. They have some remarkable birds in that privately-run bird sanctuary. Overall, I was please we made this trip. In retrospect, I think we could have arranged much the same trip less expensively once we arrived in Antigua by working with a local travel agent. There are plenty of agencies in downtown Antigua. With that said, with Viator, we gained the confidence of knowing everything was arranged in advance. Since this was our first trip to Guatemala, that was worth it to us.
