Sorry but I would like to give this tour a whole lot more stars, but the guide was almost not speaking English. He knew his history but when trying to understand his English it kind of spoiled the trip. However the tour itself gave a good veiw of Chania and the local kitchen.
This experience allows us to have a customized tour of one of the most beautiful towns in the world. We can visit places tourists rarely go and get to know some of the local history thanks to a native guide. Just make an effort to understand his english.
Kostas gave us a fascinating tour of Chania showing us spots that we hadn't visited before and are not always on the usual tourist trail.
Make sure that you don't have a big breakfast before you start this tour as the first stop is the famous bougatsa shop, delicious but very filling
If you are expecting a blow by blow of the battle of Marathon by an expert, this is not the tour for you I don't think there is one. But if you want an interesting day traveling around the small community of Marathon looking at the various Olympic venues, the Marathon race museum, but not the small archeological museum connected with the battle, and spending a pleasant afternoon in Giorgio's backyard eating snacks wonderful mezze prepared by his wife, then this would be a different and pleasant tour. You get to meet a pleasant Greek couple, see different types of sights, and have a broadening experience. An idiosyncratic day, but well worth it. My wife and I both enjoyed it. We regretted not being able to take the dried figs and teas and herbs that the hosts had prepared for us since we know that the Customs Inspectors in the US would just have us throw them away. But their heart was in the right place. Again, recommended, but know what you are getting and not getting.
