Taste your way through Chiang Mai’s iconic snacks, local-style treats and vibrant markets on a 5-hour food tour of Northern Thailand’s most delicious city. Follow your guide on a route that combines cuisine and culture, favorite Thai dishes and iconic temples as you explore the city on foot and by 'songthaew.' Meet your guide at your centrally located hotel, then start the day with a local breakfast at Warorot Market. Browse stalls overflowing with tropical produce, clothing and fresh flowers, and learn the basic ingredients of Thai cuisine, from great piles of fresh peppers to ripe fruit, aromatic spices and herbs.
Hop a local songthaew to Wua Lai Road — riding one of these colorful red trucks is a must-do Chiang Mai experience — where you’ll visit the traditional Lanna silversmiths at Wat Sri Suphan. Pause for a serene coffee break in the oasis-like garden of a local art center, then continue on foot to Wat Chedi Luang, one of the most impressive and historical religious sites in Chiang Mai. Take in the giant pagoda and Chiang Mai city pillar, working up an appetite for lunch at a beloved local restaurant.
Taste authentic dishes like khao soi curry with crispy egg noodles, lim lao ngow, saad noodles and khao man gai, a classic preparation of chicken with rice, then finish your meal with a local sweet. From Three Kings Monument, your guide can help you to secure local transportation back to your hotel.
My boyfriend and I loved this tour! That day, no other participants were on the tour, and we ended up having a private tour with our guide who was such a sweet lady. She was very informative, smart and spoke perfect English.
First, we went out first to get some Thai donuts in the morning with soymilk. My boyfriend was allergic to soy (and we forgot to mention it during the booking process... oops!) but they were so accommodating, and were able to get him some coffee instead.
After breakfast, we headed to a local market to check out things that were not touristy! We saw juice stands, local crafts, chili paste, fresh fruit and vegetables, and a huge flower market. At each location, our guide had something notable to say.
After checking out markets and temples, we were able to try the local cuisine of Chiang Mai! We thoroughly enjoyed the Khao Soi and the chicken and rice dishes! What a fun way to spend your morning. Highly recommend this tour!
