We enjoyed our day trip to Guatape. It was well organized and everything was on schedule. We enjoyed the food and found this a good way to meet other tourists. We had to make some last minute change to the trip due to sickness, and since we change the day of our trip, we found them very acomodating. Overall, great experience for what we paid for.
3 travelers living in the states (Aussie, Colombian snd American) went on this tour. Easy on time park pick up - clear communications with additional what’s app support if you need it. We had Louisiana and Elena as our guides - both wonderful ladies who definitely knew about the towns and guatape area well. Wen through various small and medium sized towns with interesting history and things to look at. They gave precise times and locations to meet and gave plenty of time to climb and take photos on top of El Peñón. Overall they were amazing and we tipped them afterwards but they were not expecting a tip (they deserved it).
Louisiana was our main guide and she was hilarious. Didn’t have the chance to but she looks a little like the GOT mother of dragons Emilia Clark :)
Thank you so much for your knowledge and hospitality in Colombia.
This tour really offers a lot for your buck. For $30 you get breakfast and lunch, a walk through a small, less touristy town, a tour of El Peñol, and time in Guatapé. Making so many stops if done on one's own can get stressful and filled with hassle so booking this tour really made things comfortable. Jesus, our tour guide, was a funny guy who also took amazing photos for us. My friend and I got to bond with him more than the others so our photos were off the charts (turns out he's a legit photographer too). I highly, highly recommend this tour to everyone. It's full day and is packed with fun.
This tour was 4 hours of "meh" followed by too little time at the Piedra de Penol and WAAY too little time in Guatape. There is no boat. The stop in a "small town called Guarne" is really a stop at a charmless roadside restaurant for a completely fine but unremarkable arepa with cheese and a truly terrible cup of coffee. Marinilla is a small town with some vaguely interesting history but not worth an hour out of the day. By the time you actually get to the Piedra de Penol, it's getting close to noon, and you don't even have time to pull off the side of the road to take some cool pictures from afar. Having a guide seems like it would add a lot to the experience but our guide wasn't much better-informed than my Lonely Planet. All in all, I would have enjoyed myself more had I done this visit entirely on my own by taking the bus.
