Fabulous

Hiking Base Las Torres at Torres del Paine National Park | feb 2020
Thanks to Andres and Gabriel who were very good guides, they were encouraging people to do their best to have the final view at the top. The hiking or trekking was a bit hard at the end. but I was able to come back with 2 hours advanced fron the group as I wanted to walk a bit faster on the return. It was fabulous, we got a very nice weather and again Gabriel and Andres gave good advices for the walk and good descriptions too. This tour is for people who love to hike and connect with nature. I got to come back from Puerto Natales to Punta Arenas after I came back at 9:30pm to my hotel. such a wonderful day.

It took us 8 hrs. Guide was excellent and encouraging. It is harder than I expected. Scenery and trip is worth it but do not recommend for persons with heart or lung or knee problems.

Operator swopped me to another operator

star-3Paul N
El Tatio Geyser and Machuca Tour | nov 2018
When we checked in to our hotel we had a note from the operator to say we would be picked up at our hotel at 5.30am. We were surprised when another operator called at the hotel at 5.10 am to collect us, so we hastily joined them. No explanation. When we returned to our hotel after the tour there was an envelope waiting for us from the tour operator who collected us advising that we would be collected at 4.30am that morning - a bit late to receive the note after the tour, but fortunately we didn't get in before the tour or we would have waited from 4.30am to 5.10am.Not very good planning all round and never an explanation from the original operator about the change.Anyway - large bus. We were the only English speakers, but fortunately we had a good guide who we had been with the day before and made sure we understood everything. Tour basically did what it said we would do.Note: 1 they say it's cold at the geysers and they are right. November and minus 5C. Of course it warmed up quickly.2. The geysers are more steam and bubbling so don't expect geysers that shoot high into the sky.3. The roads to the geysers are bumpy and poor.4. The entry to the geysers is 10,000 pesos ($20) which isn't included in this tour price.End of the day the geysers are worth visiting. I picked this operator because I thought we would be a smaller group - I didn't realise I would be passed to another operator who I could have booked with in the first place.

Day trip - not for us

Chiloe Island: Castro & Dalcahue | nov 2018
Trip not for us, too far for the day from Varas and did not get a feel for life or culture on the island. Too many churches. It was raining hard so difficult to get a good view of the place. The older generation on the trip seemed to enjoy it. Should have gone white water rafting instead, more fun.

Good value

Moon Valley & Death Valley Tour from San Pedro de Atacama | nov 2018
For the price this tour was a good value based on length and places visited. There was some walking involved including one lengthy uphill climb which was harder for older person like me. The sunset view at the end was disappointing as expected more.

Hiking Base Las Torres at Torres del Paine National Park | sep 2018

Holy cow, this experience was hard. I was picked up at my Airbnb without problem. The ride to the trailhead is about 1.5 hours from Puerto Natales. As I had described to my friends, hiking Torres del Paine is like going through menopause. It started out hot. Then it go windy like seriously windy like you're in the middle of a storm. Eventually as we advanced higher in altitude, it got colder. When it rained, it became freezing. The hike itself roundtrip was about 6 hours total and a distance of 10 miles. It was shorter than it normally should be because the weather got too dangerous to advance to the vista point to see the W. It was disappointing that after all that hard work, we were not rewarded with what we came to see, but at the same time, I was relieved. The terrain was difficult. The combination of snow, mud, and rain made the trail slippery and difficult to walk in. Be sure to wear waterproof hiking boots that will do an okay job in the snow. Also, the weather changes quickly in the mountains. I wish I brought a rain poncho because by the time I got back to the van, I was drenched from head to toe and had to entire a 2 hour ride back in my wet clothes. Thank goodness the heater was on, but still, it was not fun to endure. Overall, the challenge was a beautiful experience. Gorgeous views will surround you as you torture yourself on these mountains. I definitely don't regret it. If I had to change one thing, it would have been to bring a rain poncho with me. Also, I wished the weather conditions would've made seeing the W possible. I hope you all have better luck!

Osorno Volcano & Petrohue Waterfalls from Puerto Varas | ago 2018

Amazing tour but I'd not book from Viator - the tour was operated by Turistour and they offer this tour for 26000 pesos 40 USD while Viator charges 65 USD, I've messaged Viator for a price match multiple times but haven't heard back in over 2 weeks. The tour itself is very good though!
