Itaparica Island, the largest island in Brazil’s Bay of All Saints, is a popular day trip option from Salvador da Bahia. The tropical town of Mar Grande is home to bustling markets, shopping, and plenty of restaurants. Those looking for a more traditional island getaway should head to the north coast, where the beaches are scenic and the ocean views spectacular. Excursions to the island by schooner typically include free time on the island, lunch, and live samba music and caipirinhas on the way back to the mainland. Things to know before you go

Don’t forget to bring a beach towel, swimsuit, and plenty of sunscreen for your day on the island.
It’s a good idea to bring a rain poncho, as sudden downpours can occur on the island, even during the dry season.
The best way to get around the island is on foot or by minivan taxi (kombi), which are often waiting at the ferry dock.
