This was way fun tour! Well worth the money. We spent hours traveling along back country 4-wheel drive roads, up along the rim of the caldera around Sete Cicades. Views were fabulous. Didn't hurt that we had a perfectly clear cloudless sunny day. The food was local and very good, some not recognizable to us Americans but well presented and plenty of it. Just depends on how adventurous your taste buds are. The ATC's and Razor were in excellent condition. The guide had a tendency to forget we were behind him and would lose us in the maze of dirt roads. In the town where we had lunch he had to come back and find a couple of us. This was our 4th time on the São Miguel Is, Ponta Delgada port, and we saw so much more than we've ever seen before.
We booked the half day, having previously enjoyed quad bike tours in other countries. We went on the tour with philipe and had a fantastic time. We met at the tour booth opposite the marina hotel in ponto delgada. A quick minibus ride got us to the quads, where we had to show we could handle them before going out. This was easy to do. :- i think every should at least give it a go, so much fun.
Anyway, things you need to know:
The half day takes you on main roads, side roads and dirt tracks.
We only had another couple with us and phillipe, so had a max of 3 quads as they sit 2 each.
If you want a quadbike each, don't book 1 ticket for 2, book 2 single tickets.
There is a car park near the meeting point in ponto delgada, not expensive.
This tour is amazing! The quad bikes are new, you get to see sete cidades from the main viewing points, then go around the volcano's crater and into sete cidades village for a stop, right near a gorgeous church. You ride over the 7 arch bridge, around the blue lake and then on to an incredible viewing point.
It's a fabulous way to see parts of the island you'd otherwise miss. Phillipe told us about the craters and island's history, was happy to take photos and stop at viewing points. We neve4 felt rushed and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I recommend this trip 100. The roads are safe to get about on, the scenary is gorgeous and it's a great mini adventure for your holiday. Do it!
The buggy tour was so much fun, and Luis was an awesome guide. He had each of us drive the buggy, and he took over when we got to the more perilous areas. We went up to Fogo in the morning, and it was too foggy to see the lagoon, so we headed back down, toured around, and went to a great included lunch at a restaurant. I think we crashed a wedding? They didn't mind. After lunch, Luis took us back up the crater rim so we could see Fogo, since the fog had lifted. It was incredible! All along the way he showed us beautiful sights and stopped anywhere we wanted to take pictures. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Sao Miguel.
It was AWESOME! We went as a family of 7 ages 18 to 53. Miguel was our guide. He did a great job showing us Fogo Lake and other gems. Be prepared for Fogo Lake and avoid disappointment- the views are beautiful, but mainly from the main road, where it's very crowded with visitors. There is a trail that takes you down towards the lake we couldn't hike for a health issue. If you are interested in hiking down I suggest discussing this in advance with ANC. You don't spend too much time at Fogo. It was a great day with a lot of driving, so does not suit everyone. As this trip was off season Jan. 2018 Miguel suggested taking ATVs for the young adults while my wife and myself drove a 4-seat AWD Polaris RZR buggy my wife doesn't like ATVs and snowmobiles.... Easy and fun. Our kids loved the ATVs! This tour includes a basic local lunch. I definitely recommend for the right audience/drivers. Please check my other review on the Polaris RZR Cete Cidades Tour with the same company which involves less drivers and might suit you better.
This was one of my favorite tours in our four days on Sao Miguel! Louis and Dennis were fantastic guides. Being on ATVs/UTVs allowed us to visit parts of the island buses and jeeps could never access, including waterfalls and beautiful vistas. This is not a race - you don't get a racing-style ATV and spend the day full throttle. This is a nice, leisurely drive through the country with plenty of time to stop, take pictures, and just enjoy your surroundings. They say it is always raining somewhere on Sao Miguel, so be sure to dress appropriately. I wore a lightweight raincoat over a heavy sweatshirt, and waterproof jogging pants over sweatpants and I was comfortable even though we got heavily rained on. My girlfriend wore jeans and an anorak, both of which got soaked through, and she was miserable. I recommend layers, waterproof outer shells, and waterproof boots.
My husband and I took a tour of Sete Cidades by ATV Buggy with Luis. It was amazing! It is the Best way to see the area! Fun and Excitiing .Highly recommend
This tour was amazing!! Joao and his trainee were such wonderful guides, showing us all of the local plants and spots of interest. We went to Joao and Rimi's beautiful resort and received such incredible hospitality!! The volcano cooked meal was Delicious and homemade salad and dessert were great!!
