Very professional course we really enjoyed it. We learned to carve different fruits and vegetables which you can take home after the course, sadly we couldn’t as we had a flight that afternoon. Training is hands on and fully explained step by step in a laptop presentation. Tori and Sone were lovely hosts as they not only taught you about carving but about the Thai culture and traditions in there home in a lovely relaxed environment.Highly recommend thank you both
highly recommend this class!! its fun and easy to learn to create things just as pretty as in the posted picture. the instructor is so charming and patient. as a bonus they take a lot of really high quality pictures of the session and email you at the end of the day. you wont be disappointed!!
This class is excellent! No one else within Chiang Mai region is hosting a class like this. I was picked up from my hotel and dropped off, the hosts were a lovely couple and invited me into their beautiful home where I had a 1 on 1 session. Their English was great and they were both very kind, knowledgeable and lovely to be around. I learnt how to carve flowers in eggplants, how to make cool designs with tomatoes, carrots and even carve a large watermelon and play some local musical instruments. I purchased the carving tools from them and took home my creative design of fruit and vegetables. This tour is a MUST if you want to experience something other than Thai Cooking and Bathing Elephants. Well worth every penny!
I had a lovely morning with Toei in my carving class.
After an intro to carving, and a bit about the differences between Thai, Chinese and Japanese approaches to carving, we started with some basic carrot leaves to get you used to the knife. From there we moved onto tomato roses and radish flowers. A short break, then onto carrot roses and cucumber flowers. Another break your hand does get tired! and it was time to move onto the watermelon!
Toei is good at tailoring the class to how you're doing, so you're stretched but still doing something that will end up looking decent. Toei's husband takes on the role of photographer, and they'll email you photos afterwards.
And you get to take the results home with you for a tasty lunch!
