I always use a HoHo bus to get around cities while on vacation. I think the Blue tour in Cape Town is better than the Red if you're pressed for time. You can take both routes, of course. Both buses start next to the Aquarium and make a stop at the HoHo ticket office downtown. Get off there, walk one block behind the office, and you'll find the African crafts market with the nicest people hoping you'll barter with them. The Red route goes up to the base of Table Mountain and continues to the beaches and jetset towns. The Blue route goes outside of Cape Town to Hout Bay with the World of Birds sanctuary (Africa's largest), the bay with its teal water, impressive boats and seal island, seals that follow tourists on the pavement, craft market, and a nice store in which to make purchases. Both routes bring you to the same beaches and jetset towns. The views are exquisite. With my 2-day ticket this past Friday and Saturday, I also took a harbor tour, which was included in the price. One caveat: The HoHo ticket is supposed to give you free round trip shuttle transportation to the famous Groote Schuur hospital to tour the operating theatre where Dr. Christiaan Bernard performed the world's first heart transplant in 1967.My request was refused. The director of the museum was called by the HoHo ticket office manager, and when they heard "It's for one person," all of a sudden the shuttle isn't working this week. The "shuttle" is a private car. I've done that tour three times in the past six years, and guess who told the director of the Heart of Cape Town museum to hook up with Viator in the first place? Me!.
We used the hop-on hop-off bus as a way to safely explore the centre of Cape Town and also further afield including a short detour to some local wineries (which was included in the ticket) We also used the complimentary canal trip (for 2 day voucher only) which showed us bits of this city from another angle. The drivers were very courteous and helpful and the commentary audio was amusing and full of interest. We also took advantage of the hour long walking tour which was also included and the guide was well informed and helpfulAll in all great value
Took us a while to sort out the routes and options but once we got going it was a very good tour - especially the route to the Table Mountain cable car. (Hint - buy the cable car ticket at the sightseeing bus office and avoid the queues at the cable car!)
Excellent bus service that takes you from the heart of Cape Town to the surrounds. The wine route with the hop on hop off bus is definitely worth it and the whole experience was very informative. One route takes you to the lower cable car station for Table Mountain which has to be done while in Cape Town - the views are spectacular.
We loved the Hop-on-Hop-off bus!!! We did all 4 lines over the course of 2 days, got some amazing pictures, heard all about the areas, got off to see what we wanted to explore further and had a harbor cruise and sunset bus tour. Best money we spent on our trip to Cape Town. The buses were very regular and the drivers all very helpful...
excellent tour, watershed market were great with good food and lots of handmade and local crafts. Table Mountain was very busy and probably better to go after lunch as the crowds had thinned out by the time we were leaving. The clouds can come over the top in the afternoon so its either an hour queue or chance of clouds. Should have bought the cable car ticket online and you dont have wait too long. because we only had 1 day in Cape Town it wasnt enough to see lots, a 2 day or 3 day ticket would have been good.
