Coach arrived on time, the guide provided information about Cyprus from the moment the tour started until we were making the journey home
The first stop was the Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery, where we spent 40 mins there's not alot to see here apart from the small church, there was good viewing point of the mountains for some good photos but I like many of the others spent 20 mins just wasting time until we could go on our way.
The main stop of the day was the Kykkos Monastery split into two parts, a brand new chapel had been built with on a little hill with new decorative pathway adorned with a paintings of saints etc, sadly we were only given 20/25 mins here, so I never got up to the chapel or tomb which was a shame, as time walked up, looking and taking photos and then had to get back.
The second part was looking around Kykkos itself, the guide explained about the monastery and then we had free time to look around, this is certainly worth a visit the amount of gold and painted mosaics/pictures, any other monastery compared to this one looks rather bare.
We had enough time here, the only downside was for those less abled walkers on the coach. It dropped us outside the entrance but you had to pick it up at the bottom of the hill and a few passengers did comment to me, did they really have to walk down as it would be a struggle. There was absolutely no reason why it couldn't have picked us up where it had dropped us, other coaches were, a good guide would have assess the age and abilities of her group etc. Not that this affected me but I did feel for the others.
We then travelled around the mountains passing through villages all very nice and picturesque.
As I have learnt over the years the lunch stop on these types of tours is usually at one restaurant where there is no other option and I was correct. As we were not the only coach stopped this was a bit chaotic feeding time at the zoo, they were laying on a buffet of traditional Cypriot dishes inc a glass of wine for 12 which was reasonable. I and another passenger did not fancy this as we had had a big breakfast and would have a big evening meal at the hotel, therefore we managed to get a coffee and piece of cake instead for 7.50 good job I liked Apple cake as I was given no choice although it was a big piece and very nice
Next was more tour of the mountains with detailed information from the guide and then stoping in the village of Omodos before making our way back to the hotels
Overall a very good value for money day out, mountains and monasteries explored.
