Meeting the Baron

We were a little nervous about taking a non-cruise excursion with the risk of missing the ship on our return but needn't have been. Our host was wonderful. Wings of Omaka is a must-see for an aviation enthusiast but my wife wasn't bored. Awe-inspiring to gaze upon a piece of the Red Baron's triplane; a cross cut from the fuselage. The winery tour was great too.

Thanks for the great review, Michael. I'm really pleased you enjoyed your Wings of Omaka and Marlborough Wine Tour from Picton. The exhibits at the museum are excellent and a must see for both history buffs and casual audiences alike. It's a great attraction in Blenheim and I'm glad it's receiving so much positive feedback. With regard to your first comment, we completely understand the hesitation of booking a private shore excursion instead of going with the cruise ships tours, as cruises will often use fear-tactics to discourage their passengers going with other companies. With that said, we have been operating these tours for the past 7 years and we have never missed the cruise ship final boarding times, which is why we're confident to say that if we miss your ship for whatever reason then we guarantee to get you to next port. Thanks again and I hope you get to return to Picton and Marlborough one day soon!

The best of Wine and Flight

Wonderful day with our guide Mike. We had time to visit Omaka Air Museum (Sir Peter Jacksons wonderful WW1 display, and local aviators WW2 display) both top notch. Then off to wine tasting at several wineries of distinction in New Zealand's major wine area Marlborough. All the visits and planning, plus great information from Mike on the local culture made it really enjoyable. We would highly recommend this tour if you our in Picton.

Thank you for the awesome review of your Wings of Omaka and Marlborough Wine Tour from Picton. I'm really glad you enjoyed yourself on this shore excursion. I agree that the museum is truly top notch and that the Marlborough Wine Region is certainly worth a visit for those in the area. It's also great to hear that you guide, Mike, made your time in Marlborough all the more enjoyable thanks to his friendly and informative commentary. I'll be sure to pass on your kind words to him! Thanks again and I hope you get to return to Picton someday soon!

We were told that Omaga Aviation Museum was a must see, and they weren’t wrong. We were literally astounded at the authenticity that had been presented by the staff. With the background photo’s showing original scenes, and the planes presented in action positions and the figures give a sense of realism supplied by WETA Workshop. A truly enjoyable time, highly recomended for everyone! Can’t recommend Jade Tours enough our guide Kevin was fantastic.

Thank you very much for the great review and recommendation of the Wings of Omaka and Marlborough Wine Tour from Picton. I'm really pleased you enjoyed the Omaka Aviation Museum with its incredible collections of both WW1 and WW2 fighter planes and brilliant exhibits that perfectly captures a bygone era. The staff their do an amazing job in both preserving the exhibits and providing incredible facts about both wars and the aircraft used. I'll be sure to pass on your kind words to your guide, Kevin, when I next speak to him. Thanks again and I hope you get to visit New Zealand again soon!

Thanks for the great review Elly! It's great to hear you had such a nice time on your Wings of Omaka and Marlborough Wine Tour. The museum often gets a lot of praise for its exhibits. And, not to mention, the Marlborough region houses some of the best vineyards and wine in the country. I'm glad the wineries and your guide Mike made such a good impression on you. I'll be sure to pass on your kind words. Thanks again and I hope you visit New Zealand again some time soon.

BEST AIRCRAFT DISPLAY IN THE WORLD...

BEST AIRCRAFT DISPLAY IN THE WORLD. We only had an hour and had to choose between WWI and WWII exhibits. We chose WWI. The displays and the volunteer guide were fantastic! It is a living history museum because it contains so many precious items and stories. I bought the book so I can read about some of the things we missed. Of course the winery tours were good too. The lunch at Giesen Winery was great. Fantastic smoked Green Mussels. Our professional tour guide was great. Some day I would like to visit Wings of Omaka again and spend the day there.

We felt very rushed. We met our tour guide at 8:30 along with another couple from the cruise. There were two vans scheduled for this tour. The other van left basically on time because all of their tourists were on time. Our guide waited for another 30 minutes when two other couples arrived. He then waited for an additional 15 minutes because two more people were scheduled for his van. After waiting for a total of 45 minutes, we took off for our tour. We rushed thru the Wings of Omaka museum and also skipped one of the Marborough wineries.

This was a well organised tour, and the tour guide Mike and Rob were friendly, informative and always keen to ensure the trip went well including Rob playing cards with our children whilst we were doing the wine tasting. Our only negative was that the lunch stop took too long due to the busy-ness of the restaurant, which caused one of the tasting stops to be cut short. Mike assured us the next stop would be better which was correct - and Mike was able to ensure that we 'caught up' at the next stop, but in hindsight the lunch stop could have been somewhere else, offering quick, light snacks perhaps. Mike did say on the day that he would be proposing not to use the restaurant again, and so this issue may have been already resolved for future tours.

Sue and Mike from Jade Tours were fantastic. Sue was knowledge, friendly and accessible. She was happy to provide answers and accommodate slight changes in the itinerary. Wings of Omaka is one of the best aviation museums I have visited. The displays were amazing. They were created by Weta Workshops and are very realistic. The wording on each display was easy to read and understand. The wineries that Sue took us too were interesting and provided an insight into wine making in the Malborough regions. She avoided the wineries that the cruise ship tours were attending so that we had an intimate experience. All in all a fantastic experience.

Mike was a terrific guide. Had infinite knowledge of the geography. Wings of Omaka truly amazing but excursion only covers entrance to one of two exhibits. We would have preferred to spend a bit more time so we could of had the option of viewing both exhibits. Visited 4 winery cellar doors. Were able to taste 4-5 wines at each winery. Beautiful countryside. Pick up and drop off went very smooth.
