Avis de voyageurs Viator
Buyer beware: you have no idea which tour company you will get
, août 2019
I recently traveled to Rome with a group of 8 family members, all who booked this tour through Viator for the same time, but using three different reservations. We assumed that we'd be together, since we all selected the same time on the same Viator website. Wrong assumption. When we compared our three reservation tickets, we were all instructed to go to separate meeting places and were being met by three different tour companies. It was terribly confusing and disappointing. The worst part was that my elderly parents were supposed to meet their group several miles from the colosseum to first go on a walking tour, which was never disclosed in the reservation. They ended up missing their tour. When the members of my reservation finally found our tour group, we ended up having a great tour. Our guide was an Italian archeologist, and she was so attentive and knowledgable. I just wish that I hadn't spent my tour wishing that my parents had the same experience. Viator should disclose that there are multiple tour companies that you can be placed with, some that start with a lengthy walking tour.
Dear Lara, thanks for your opinion and for sharing your story as well as expectations and experience. We're responding from Gray Line I Love Rome, the destination management company that curates tours in Rome and outside. We're Viator's supplier which is therefore a distributor of our products. As you can imagine, there are other companies like us that sell their services on Viator. We're sorry that your family ended up scattered at different tours, but if you were able to leave this review here your tour was with us, so we're very glad that your experience was so excellent that you wished your family was living the same too. Just a tip: on a product page on Viator, the section Departure & Return and FAQs indicate the meeting point/starting point of the tour you're looking at. So if you see different meeting points, it means that you're reserving with two different companies. Hope this is helpful and best regards, the Gray Line I Love Rome Team
Do not buy these tickets! This company is non-existent and won't show up! After searching the square for over an hour, we asked the Colosseum workers about them and they didn't recognize this tour group! We weren't the only guests that were stood up either. Read the other reviews - they all mention this. Now I'm fighting them for a refund.
Dear M Johns, we're appalled to hear this (and sorry for reading this review only today), we can assure you that we exist and are always engaged to avoid issues at our meeting points. Please allow us to re-open your case, or expedite its resolution in case you're still waiting for a refund. To this effect, please send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org providing your reference code. Thanks in advance, the Gray Line Rome Reviews Team
The tour is nice, no customer support in case of problem
, juil. 2019
I ordered a night tour that should start at 21.30. We arrived to a meeting point 5 min before, however no one was there. We rechecked the reservation and only then noticed that it said that we should arrive 15 min before. We called the phone number from the reservation kind of customer service, but no one answered. Then we decided to proceed to the Colosseum entrance by ourselves and check if the tour already entered. This was the case, they were already inside. Only then I understood that the tour was not operated by Viator but by other tour operator, unknown to me. The reason I ordered Viator because of good reviews, however the tour was held by other company that I even didn't know their name.
I was disappointed that for such a tour, not a cheap one, the instructor didn't wait for us (just to remind at 21.30 we were at Colosseum gate but they already entered) and there was no one to ask for a help from the agency. Finally, the security guys at the gate checked that our tour is already inside and let us in. The Colosseum team was really nice but not the agency with zero support.
The tour itself was interesting.
We thought that this excursion was great. Our tour guide was knowledgeable. Learned a lot about how it was built, how the gladiators and animals came into the theatre through trap doors. It is amazing how they constructed this theatre so long ago and how big it is. There technology was hard to believe for the tools and equipment they had. The only thing that would have made it better was going on a night where the moon was out.
Not clear in the information that the tour is made up of 1 hr walk around Rome before entering Colosseum. Didn't enter until 10:30pm. Once inside, excellent but the first section might be best avoided.
