My Neuschwanstein Review
, oct. 2019
The busy of the castle and Ming Ludwig is a wonderful educational experience. A little overpriced for a 30 minute audio tour. Our guide was wonderful. We did not meet him where we were supposed to and he still managed to find us and ensure we were added to the tour group.
Very Disappointed

The tour guide was only took us to the door, then we had radios for a short 1/2 tour of a few rooms. The Castle was huge and we did not see much of it at all. The carriage ride was down the hill to a stop. No real tour around the town like the ad stated. We expected the tour to be 2-3 hours. Felt rushed inside and we just did not see much.
Enjoyed the tour!!

It was so wonderful not to stand in line for tickets and to take the bus instead of walking uphill to the castle. Our tour guide Amir was very friendly and knowledgeable about the true story of Ludwig. It was so beautiful to see the castle from Mary’s Bridge although I would have liked to have more time there to admire the awesome beauty. Overall, great tour!!
Tour guide was amazing.

Our tour guide, Amir, was well versed in the ACTUAL history of Ludwig II and the circumstances of his vision and intent for Neuschwanstein. The common story was that King Ludwig II was crazy and spent much of the governments money to build the castle. However, he used his own monies ($75million in today’s equivalent) and built the castle with only one reference to him believing the art itself inclusive of music and art was to be on display. He was greatly loved by the people of his time. To say he died under suspicious circumstances is an understatement. King Ludwig supposedly died by drowning but had no water in his lungs. The doctor who declared him insane did so from Munich 80 miles away, without examining him. The same doctor died the same evening by strangulation from persons unknown. However, the uncle who hired the doctor ended up essentially ruling the kingdom for the next couple decades. There are many more historical underpinnings that make the actual castle tour far richer. Skip the lines and use Viator and hope for Amir!
Truly the best tour ever

We came to Germany for our 15 year wedding anniversary and the Neuschwanstein Castle was on the top of our list. Our guide Amir was so knowledgeable and a true joy. Thank you!
Worth it

The tour is well organized and efficient. It was cold and snowing, people were standing in long lines. But not us. We got in pretty quick and enjoyed the tour. The only suggestion I have is the meeting place location. We drove and waited at the designated location. More specifically, the meeting place was at parking area #3 next to where we were told to wait. Other than that, it was great.

I had previously used Astrid Baur and her company European Castle Tours via Viator. It was an exceptional experience. This time was different. Approximately two weeks prior to our booked tour I received an email stating the tour had been cancelled from Astrid's assistant Amir. No explanation, but merely it had been cancelled and to contact Viator for a refund. This forced me to restructure several aspects of my trip, but I made it work. I rebooked the tour for four days later. Three days before the new tour date another email. This one again from Amir, that because we were the only ones that had booked our particular type of tour we were getting downgraded, and the difference would be refunded in cash when we arrived. I felt there was no real effort to make good on the previous cancellation, and the casual manner this was handled bothered me. Nevertheless, because of road construction and foggy driving conditions we arrived 20 minutes late and missed the departure of the tour. We still went up to the castle, had a good tour, and enjoyed ourselves. What I discovered in this is I need neither European Castle Tours or Viator to end up with the same result that I managed on my own.
Wonderful tour, but not easy with little children.

Every thing was well organized, the transfer was with public bus. Only 35 minutes inside tge castle, no chance to stay longer and watch all the wonderful things. But this is not a fault of viator or the tourguide. She did a very good job, could explain a lot, was nice to listen to her. She talked English and German, very important for our mixed group. Neuschwanstein is worth to visit, I recommend the morning tour, after lunch it was getting crowded. If possible, stay some more hours, and enjoy this beautiful castle !

The castle is set in an absolutely fabulous location and is beautiful. While the setting is fantastic and tour itself leaves a lot to be desired. Very little history was discussed and the number of visitors should be more controlled. Two bus loads of tourists arrived at the same time that we arrived and promptly swamped our private tour. My recommendation would be to visit at a time that is not as popular. Very much worth the trip from Heidelberg on the Romantic Highway. We rented a car and enjoyed the scenery along the way. We happened upon a small city called Worm pronounced with a V which turned out to be a highlight of our visit.

The guide spent more time in proving why he is important in this tour and giving lengthy lectures and giving very less time to actually view castle at the bridge. You end up following him because he will leave you behind otherwise. You can find all the information he gave online and loose the main purpose of actually to visit and see the castle. Forgot the Guy name but he was from Egypt and tour started from Fussen European Castle tours office.
