When we got to the indicated office or building number there was a line down the street...many people not knowing what to do. Inside there was a desk indicating different languages for service. I din’t see an English line so I asked and they immediately took care of me..we made it in just the nick of time. If I followed protocol and waited my turn I’d have been several hours late. Over all we got what we wanted but I speculate many did not.
It was hard to find out where to go to collect tickets...there were people everywhere directing you in a different direction. But this is completely worth the money. We got to skip the MASSIVE line and head directly to the security line. We waited about 10mins total before we were free to explore the museum.
We booked for fast track entry which we did receive, but the service from Tours About wasn't great. First of all, the address we were given to get our tickets was correct but we had to be re-directed to a different office so it took us extra time to even get our tickets. Once we had arrived at the office, it was very busy so I can understand that the staff might have been stressed but they weren't very friendly or approachable. Once we'd got through the queue and reached the desk, the staff members just blanked us - not even a 'I'll be with you in a moment' or even a smile of recognition that we were even there. Once we'd got our booking sorted there was a bit of a wait and then we were directed to the museums and given instructions on how to get in which was fine. The customer service was the bare minimum though, average at best really.
Once we had gotten to the museums, we did enjoy it generally but it was very busy. This is understandable of course given the fact that it's a tourist attraction but you couldn't really stop to take things in - you essentially just shuffled from room to room. It was a little underwhelming really.
It isn’t made clear enough that there is a meeting point for this tour even if you’re just getting an entry ticket!! Was late for the meeting point as I didn’t know and then couldn’t go in and wasted a lot of money!!!
Laura was a wonderful guide for us and told us so much about the Vatican and its wonderful history over so many years. Particular attention to all the interesting paintings and art work was a joy to hear her give so much detail. She made our day very special.
Thank you Laura from Tony and Anne Twiggs
I was anticipating this prebooked tour with excitement. Had been to The Vatican Museums in 2002 with my husband and child before the restoration of the Sistene Chapel paintings and was completely looking forward to seeing that and to seeing the Pieta afterwards. On a cruise, I’d anticipated my window of time in Rome to be a couple hours longer than it really was. it started at close to 10, but the wait in line outside was incredibly long, over an hour, even for prebooked tours. Once inside, we pretty much only could shuffle along long hallways. Our guide, an older woman with a yellow scarf on her stick, left our group at least 5 times for one things or another, sometimes for up to 10 minutes, leaving us with her stick just standing there. She rushed us through and at times almost lost us when she was able to push through the crowd. She’d encourage us to go forward and see something, but then chastise us for going ahead of her. The biggest disappointment of all was when we finally got to St. Peter’s Basillica, they were readying for New Years Eve events and had entirely curtained off Michaelangelos Pieta. Can’t tell you how sad that was, especially at the end of what was already a too-long tour. The crowds due to the New Years Eve date made this tour p, this day, much longer than anticipated and affected the rest of our limited day in Rome. I’d also prebooked the Big Bus hop on/off and was entirely unable to use it at all, a real disappointment. I hope they will refund me, but I’m sure it won’t be in full.I’ve used Viator before with great success in other locations in Europe (Venice, Israel), but this one just didn’t stand up to my expectations. Wish the guide hadn’t dumped us so many times.
