Roundhouse au musée Alyeska
Roundhouse at Alyeska est le seul musée de la montagne d'Alaska, avec une vue à 360 degrés sur le paysage environnant et met en valeur les pionniers et les meilleurs skieurs de la région. Les expositions décrivent la croissance des loisirs et du tourisme dans la région après la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
Assis sur une crête exposée à 2,280 pieds au-dessus du niveau de la mer, la vue vaut à elle seule une visite. Depuis les fenêtres du musée, sept glaciers et deux chaînes de montagnes différentes, ainsi que les eaux du bras Turnagain, peuvent être vus.
Lors de sa construction en 1960, le télésiège de 5800 pieds menant au musée était le plus long du monde. Aujourd'hui, il fait partie de la plus grande station de ski d'Alaska et de la culture et de l'histoire de la région de Girdwood. Il sert toujours de point de réchauffement et de rassemblement pour beaucoup, avec un restaurant et un salon.
The basics
The main attraction at the Roundhouse is the panoramic view of the surrounding glaciers and mountain ranges from the museum’s windows. Visitors can browse the exhibits in the museum, pick up a locally made souvenir in the gift shop, and grab a warm drink to enjoy the views. In the summer, many visitors set out for a scenic hike along the Mt. Alyeska Trail.

How to get there
The Roundhouse is located atop Mt. Alyeska in Girdwood, Alaska, 27 miles (44 kilometers) southeast of downtown Anchorage. The Roundhouse is accessible via the Alyeska Aerial Tram from The Hotel Alyeska. You can also hike to the museum from the base of the mountain; hikers who make it to the top can enjoy a free tram ride down.

The museum is open daily during the summer months from 10am to 7pm, and from 11am to 3pm on holidays and weekends during the winter months. Hours are subject to change based on weather conditions, so check online or call ahead before a visit.
The Alyeska Aerial Tram
The 60-passenger Alyeska Aerial Tram delivers visitors from the Hotel Alyeska to the top of Mt. Alyeska in mere minutes. From the Tram, you’ll enjoy expansive views in all directions and chance to spy moose and bear as you journey high above the mountainside. At the Upper Tram Terminal, there’s an observation deck, two restaurants, and the Roundhouse Museum.
