Cosmonauts' Training Centre, Star City, 141160

The Basics

Various tours run by Star City offer space enthusiasts the chance to live out their outer space fantasies. Join a guided tour of the Training Center and learn exactly what it takes to become an astronaut, then visit the Museum of Cosmonautics to find out about Russia’s history of space flights and admire the collection of space suits, spacecrafts, and other space-related items. For a more immersive experience, take a ride in one of the spacecraft simulators, try on a spacesuit, taste space food, or even watch a spacecraft lift-off when the base sends crew or supplies out to the International Space Station. Adventurous travelers can even enjoy a zero gravity flight or take part in a cosmonaut training session.

Wildcard

Space Tourism in Russia If you can’t make it to the Cosmonaut Training Center or still want to learn more about Russia’s space explorations, there are a number of other sites worth visiting. In Moscow, the Cosmonautics and Aviation Centre at VDHN is Russia’s largest space museum, while the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics is home to a full-scale replica of the MIR space station. There’s also the Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics in Kaluga, the world’s first cosmonautic museum, and Planetarium #1 in St Petersburg, where you can watch a show on one of the largest projection domes in the world.
