We took this tour in July of 2018, and it was a lot of fun to get out into the villages in the Dutch countryside. We really enjoyed the Henri Willig Cheese Farm and the village of Volendam. However, the bus schedule did not really stay on time. We ended up wasting a fair bit of time waiting for buses.
Very disappointed in this tour. For two of the bus rides, the audio in the bus wasn't working. Some of the stops it took them an hour to pick us up for the next destination. Their app only worked when it wanted to. The seats in the buses moved too much, and you were getting whiplash each bump they went over. Some of the time when they dropped us off, they told us another location where they would pick us up it would be nice to have written locations in their app - when the app worked, some of the times the location were different where they would pick us up. Most of the stops weren't worth going to.
We booked the Hop-on Hop-off day taking us to Broek, Monnickendam, Purmerend, Volendam, Edam,Zaanse Schans and Zaandam.
It was a Sunday and a number of roads were closed as there was a Bike road race in progress. As a result we couldn't go to Broek, Edam or Zaandam. No real fault of the tour company but it would have been good had they made a note of this on their website to alert people prior to them booking. Instead we went straight to Monnikendam, then a cheese factory somewhere before driving through Purmerend.... Yes, driving through and bypassing this stop because the bus driver said he lived there, it was Sunday and therefore nothing would be open and in his opinion is wasn't worth visiting!!!! However, subsequent to this, two couples who had got off another bus and walked into the town, had a thoroughly enjoyable visit because there was a fair and games being held in the main township...Why didn't our bus driver who lives there, tell us this!!!! The rest of the tour was fine and we enjoyed those villages we were able to visit.
There are supposedly 4 buses covering the route however, there were only 3 on that day because one was not working and of the 3, there were 2 large coaches and 1 mini bus which only held approx. 20 passengers Max. This meant a number of people who had waited at bus stops for in excess of 45min - 1Hr were unable to board that bus and were forced to wait longer for the next one. The bus driver was not very professional when responding to those left on the footpath and insisted in a very brusque manner that it wasn't his fault, that he couldn't do anything about and they would just have to wait. There was no attempt on his behalf to phone anyone to advice of the situation even though he had a mobile phone within his reach. A bit of customer service training would not go amiss!!
The buses did not run every 1/2hr as advertised and many were forced to wait for excess periods of time.....
I agree with Erica T Sept 2017 which is when travelled with them.
It seemed like the company isn't very experienced with this New tour. The buses didn't run every 30mins as advertised and one of the driver's we had was quite rude about it. I downloaded their App but couldn't get it to work. We bought 1 set of earphone for 2Euros which we couldn't use because the App didn't work...More profit for them!!!!
Overall, we enjoyed the day trip and overcame all the frustrations related to the buses, driver and delays in the times - but we are seasoned travelers and quite used to these types of disruptions - other tourist might not be and I would suggest if you want to build this Hop-on Hop-off tour, you need to do some serious training, rescheduling and buying more reliable and suitable buses....
We could not make our plane connections in Toronto so we did not get to Amsterdam which was a HUGE disappointment. This also meant that we missed this tour that we were really looking forward to, thus we cannot comment on the tour other than to say that it sounds amazing.
This tour was really not very good. It seemed like the company isnt very experienced or something. The buses totally didnt run every 30 mins but just randomly and the drivers were rude about it. The app is not working well and doesnt show buses or guide tour. Dont buy the earphones as they wont work and if they will your phone battery will run out sooner than you manage to find that little guiding tour information. We wanted to get on the last bus from the last stop but feared the bus will never shop and when I tried to call no one answered. The good thing was nice places, but we thought the tour should be going the other way around as the best things to see are last and you fear you'll never catch a bus. There should be a fixed timetable to stick to. Im not trying to be mean but guys you have a lot to work on to keep your customers happy.
A great trip which the whole family enjoyed. It was very easy to find the departure point and each bus stop was well located in the centre of each new village. Only downside was that there was more than 30 mins between each bus so we had quite a wait at some of the stops despite timing our stay at each location carefully.
