Etienne is the best person to see the real Antwerp. Be sure to have comfortable shoes because there is a lot of walking. He was very accommodating in adjusting his schedule to meet us due to train delays from Brussels where we were staying. Etienne has and excellent command of English and very informative about the history of Antwerp being a local. He showed us some real gems around the city that you would really mis-out with a larger group. The best would be 3-5 people. He can give you a lot of tips about places to eat and the best place to shop for diamonds. We really enjoyed the tour and Etienne really made it memorable.
We had a great tour with Etienne in Antwerp! He has shown us many special places that the common tourguides might not be able to show you, simply because you can enter these places more easily when only being three persons than when being thirty persons. We got to see some hidden and really beautiful backyards and learned a lot about Antwerps soul, its citizens and famous people, not only the usual sightseeing points. Etiennes knowledge about the city was on point and he also recommended more activities to get to know the city beyond the typical 72 hours trip.
It was a really great experience, wed absolutely book this tour again any time!
It was fabulous and Etienne was a great raconteur. He made Antwerp come alive and we enjoyed his company very much. I can recommend walking with locals as I think they are called. If you do not go on this tour you will not understand what Antwerp is all about.
Our guide, Etienne, was fabulous and i highly recommend his services. His commentary in excellent English gave us a true understanding of Antwerp in our short time. However, the actual Viator experience was extremely flawed as out tour time was 10 am but they had told Etienne to meet us at 6 pm...an hour after our ship was to sail. Four other Americans were also waiting at 10 am and Etienne had been told their tour was at 1 pm. Fortunately I had a phone with international service and could call the local number listed. So, our private tour for two persons turned into a small group tour for six that began at 11:15! It all ended well but Viator was clearly at fault for the poor communication.
This walking tour of the historical district of Antwerp with Etienne was just terrific. He speaks perfect English, and knows all sorts of anecdotes and tidbits about Antwerp, as well as pointing out the major landmarks. The three hour tour just flew by, it was so enjoyable. We even stopped midway for a beer! He was prompt, meeting us at the statue in the center of Grote Markt exactly at the time we specified. I can't recommend this introduction to Antwerp enough!
You don't get to experience the whole Antwerp because there is so much to see. The tour mainly focused on and around the Cathedral. There is plenty to learn and see. Well informed guide and very detailed oriented and patient. The tour gets you oriented about the neighborhood.
Eitenne really a professional tour guide. He can give us some history around grote markt, statue of brabo. My two children age 14 and 8 feel interesting in what he tell. Worth to have a tour if that's your first visit. He also gives us hint on using the tram at Antwerp city.
We were greeted at the appointed time and place by a very cheerful Etienne. He started with history of the area in which we met, encouraged our questions and had answers for each one. We went to all the places of interest in and around the Grote Markt at a very comfortable pace. He based this on our interest and abilities, so this was truly a custom private tour. Often, tourists would hear what he was telling us and they would stop and listen, too. Because Etienne's information was presented in such an interesting way, the time flew by. We were in back streets we never would have visited without his knowledge, much more fun than the usual 40 people group tour of the usual spots/stops. Try this, ask for Etienne! You will thoroughly enjoy every moment! Cannot wait to return to Antwerp and have Etienne take us to other areas of the city.
