My husband and I had taken this tour before and really enjoyed it, so when our kids came to visit us in Bangkok we decided to take them on it. What a difference this time. Here is what you need to know that they don't tell you. First - no where on the site does it say that you MUST have your legs fully covered. NO SHORTS. Before when we went, shorts to the knees were fine. Not this time. We all had to go into the gift shop and buy long elehant pants before we could go to see the Summer Palace. Next - half of the Summer Palace is closed. The beautiful Wat/temple is fully hidden behind construction and half of the palace was inclosed in scafolding... leaving you the gardens to see. That was very disappointing. The guide spoke pretty good English, but the microphone used on the bus was terrible and muffled what he said. Off the bus he did not use any kind of microphone so unless you stood right by him, you couldn't hear anything he said. Ayuthaya, ofcourse was amazing, and the cruise back was great with good food.
Had a great time on my tour! We were picked up by a mini van that drove us to our tour bus. The bus took us to Bang Pa In Royal Summer Palace where we spent 45 mins, then went to the first Ayutthaya site where we took pictures of the Budda Head that was pulled by the roots of the tree it was buried under and a few more pictures of the that site for 45 mins, then drove out to another pat of Ayutthaya and spent about an hour there taking pictures of that site. After that we drove out to the cruise pick up area and headed back to Bangkok.
Our times felt short at each location but well spent. The time was well managed with the distance between each site, if i would have done this on my own i would have not seen as much. I would recommend doing this on a weekday as there are less people at the sites and its easier to take good photos. Our guide told us it gets really packed on weekends. They provided water and cold towels each time we returned to the bus to help keep us refreshed. Our Guide Paisang was very kind, informative and spoke English. We had the option to stay with Paisang or to explore on our own during our time limit and then we would all meet back at the bus.
We were picked up promptly at our hotel at 7am and transferred to our coach via mini bus where we met our guide, First. As we journeyed out the freeway First was very entertaining and explained how our day would unfold and what to expect.
Our first stop in Ayutthaya was Wat Phra Si Sanphet. After about 15 minutes of explanation on the site by First we were left to explore at our leisure for 45 minutes. We were grateful that the site wasnt too busy and there were plenty of unique photo opportunities.
Once we were back on the coach First told us about our next destination, Bang Pa-in - Summer Palace. Upon arrival at the Palace we fed the veracious fish in a pond which was adorned by the Aisawanthipphaya-At Pavilion. First then took those of us who spoke English on a 30 minute walking tour explaining the history of the Palace. After this we were allowed to explore for another 30 minutes taking in the Wehart Chamrunt, or Heavenly Light and climbing the steep spiral staircase of the Ho Withun Thasana, or Sages' Lookout.
Back on the coach we headed to our River Boat for lunch and a pleasant leisurely return to Bangkok on the Chao Phraya River. The buffet lunch was OK but there were a lot of other tours on board so the food was a little light on particularly when some passengers took far more than their share. I watched one woman remove all of the solids in the Tom Yum and place them into bowls for her family which left nothing but seasoned coconut soup for the rest of us. I stress that this is not the tour operators fault. The trip along the river took around two and a half hours and was a very inciteful journey and I have no hesitation in reco
Totally recommend these guys, lots of freedom to explore the sites, the guide was great and full of information plus really friendly, pick up was exactly in time. The boat trip was so relaxing and heaps of every type of food and great way to end totally recommend this trip.
Great tour at good pace. Given time to explore sites on own for 20 minutes after getting information from guide. Unbelievably amazing beauty and history, River boat cruise nice as well and nice lunch. Highly recommend!!
