What a great experience! We had a similar private sailing tour experience in Cabo, but this one topped it! My wife and I traveled with 2 girls 12 and 10 and the kids had a blast. Great communication before the trip, and Eugenia was on top of every step. Awesome husband and wife team! Even though Eugenia couldn't sail with us, the crew on board and the Captain Eugenia's husband were very attentive.
Eugenia helped us arrange the r/t transfer service from our hotel in Playa del Carmen to the dock. The transfer company was very courteous and prompt. We chose to sail to Isla Mujeres and wanted to hang around there. We originally booked a 5-hour tour but decided to extend it to 8 hours, so we can have more time to see the island and sail/see the sunset. Eugenia arranged a snorkeling tour who met us at the sailboat and took us to a great spot near the island. Same boat took us to the island and picked us up after we grabbed a bite to eat and walked around the island. The island would have been better to experience at a different time since it being the spring break time, it was filled with a lot of drunk college kids. I guess many booze cruise like tours come to the island, and it wasn't something I wanted my 10 and 12 year old kids to experience..
All and all it was a great experience. Only thing that could have been better was the weather. It was a little bit on the colder side and water was little choppy in the morning, but Eric the captain and the crew ensured we're comfortable and safe at all times. Once we got near the Isla Mujeres, it warmed up a little and water was calmer and kids had a blast swimming around the boat, using the ocean like a giant swimming pool.
If you're looking for a private sailing tour, I'd definitely recommend it to everyone!
I wish I could give this experience more than 5 stars. Eugenia and Erik were phenomenal captains. They are willing to be very involved or give you as much space as you would like. My boyfriend and I spent the day on the boat with them, and we will be visiting them again on our next trip to cancun.
Please do yourself a favor and book a trip with Eugenia no Erik. They are amazing. We started our trip at 1pm. After a short sail, we anchored near an island, allowing us to jump off the boat and snorkel. After getting back on the boat, Eugenia had prepared us lunch. When asked what we wanted to do next, we asked if we could put both sails up and really enjoy the ride. Soon after, my husband and I shared a bottle of wine and we sailed towards the sunset, on our way back to the marina. It was just a great day! Besides lunch, Eugenia and Erik provided water, beer, margaritas and the wine!
Fabulous sailing excursion! Like sailing with friends on their personal boat. Eric and Eugenia were excellent guides and hosts. We chose this excursion so we could sail. We saw many other sail boats on the water, but virtually all were motoring. Eric sailed whenever possible, and only motored when necessary, ie iin and out of the marina. Since he sailed across the Atlantic we know he's a competent captain! And Eugenia was the most delightful and competent crew! The waters around Cancun are stunning, cyrstal blue! On our 4-hour tour for four people, we sailed out for two hours, anchored and swam/had a snack for an hour, and sailed back for an hour. Obviously as a private tour this was more expensive per person than one of the group catamaran excursions, but the sailing, personal service, and meeting Eric and Eugenia made it very worth it! Cannot recommend this highly enough!
Simply fantastic. This was possibly the best thing I did whilst in Mexico. Eugenia and Eric were the perfect hosts. Whilst on the boat my 10 year is got sea sick and Eugenia couldn't do enough for her, to make sure was comfortable and looked after. the trip was magical and I can't recommend enough!
My family and I had a terrific time, I am very glad we went with a private tour rather than booking another 'sailing' trip through the resort. If you are wondering what this trip is like, its like if a friend-of-a-friend owned a sailboat and offered to take you out. Eric and Eugenia are very warm, personable, and easy to talk to, they explain a lot about the area, about the boat, how to sail, and let everyone take turns piloting the boat, which my kids very much enjoyed. My son fished off the back of the boat, sadly he caught nothing but, was delighted nonetheless. Our hosts provided refreshments and tasty snacks and we all enjoyed jumping off the boat for some swimming later in the afternoon. When my son got sea-sick Eugenia was very warm and caring toward him, more like family than a host or tour guide. Eric taught the kids all sorts of knots used for sailing. Eugenia even offered to let us connect our phones to the speaker so we could listen to our own music. You don't get any more customizable than that! Next time we are in the area, we will be doing this again. Probably a sunset cruise next time.
