Our guide Demitrius made this rainy day one of the best touring days ever for us! We were just a group of four, and it was very easy to move around the island in a small mini-van. I have learned more on this trip about olive oil and how they make it than I ever new. It was very enjoyable to visit the wineries and olive oil factory. We tasted both wine and olive oil, and they were delicious! We bought some to take home with us! The island was very beautiful and the local people were very friendly. I highly recommend this tour, and I hope you will get Demitrius as a tour guide!
Wonderful, very personal tour. Lovely wines and olive oils with accompanying Cretan meze. A beautiful ride through the countryside to reach our destinations. Local experts were welcoming and enthusiastic. Most of all, the passion of our tour leader for Cretan history tied the trip together. So glad we booked this day tour.
Demetrius was an Outstanding guide! The tour gave us insight to the country, wine making and the Olive oil industry.our guide made sure we Never felt rushed, yet was always right there to assist. If you really want to absorb the Greek culture, take this tour and Hope you get Demetrius as a guide!☺
This turned out to be a private tour for myself and my daughter as only two of us had booked this trip for the day we went. We hugely appreciated that it was not cancelled and we had the undivided attention of our driver and guide, Yannis, who was fun, friendly and informative. At the two vineyards, there were tours of the wine and olive oil production processes - with guides from the Manousakis vineyard and Anoskeli oil producers themselves - as well as food provided so that the very generous amounts of the 10 wines tasted did not go totally to our heads. The Manousakis winery is in a stunningly beautiful location, and in both cases it was good to visit areas inland that we would not otherwise have seen.
The tour began from the office of the company in central Chania but Yannis delivered us back to our hotel at the end of the day which was hugely appreciated.
This tour was one of the highlights of our holiday and we would definitely recommend it.
This tour was a 5 STAR EXPERIENCE!! Dimitrios from GS Tours was exceptional! Dimitrois greeted us as soon as we got off the cruise ship and was very friendly. It was a 7 hour tour and from start to finish we felt like we were VIP's and family. He told us so much about the things we were seeing and when just driving to our next destination, he would talk to you about the country and interesting things you might want to know. He welcomed questions and we learned so much. We travel alot and have experienced tour guides that are NOT good and never talk except when they absolutely have to and you never learn anything about the country or place you are visiting. We visited the most beautiful monastery where they make their own organic wine and extra virgin olive oil. We visited on a Sunday so we were very fortunate to actually witness the service taking place. We received a wine tour and how they make their olive oil. The grounds were so beautiful and for miles all you can see are their own olive trees. Afterwards we were taken to a actual room that dates back to 5th century where we were able to sit down and try 4 different wines and their different varieties of extra virgin olive oil along with their homemade bread. I never tasted olive oil so incredible in my whole life. I could have eaten a whole loaf of bread with that olive oil. They also have a store there, so you can purchase it and it is VERY reasonable around 4.00 for a bottle that would cost over 25 back home in Alabama. He then took us to a famous cemetery with a lot of history, to the center of town and visited the lighthouse and even let us stop at a local restaurant for a authentic gyro which we wanted to try since we were in Greece. We went on the most beautiful drive to the top of the mountain to another famous winery and they also make extra virgin olive oil that they sell all over the world. They sell out every year since it is in such tremendous demand! We were given 4 wine samples to try along with snacks that were freshly made for us. We were also able to have the different varieties of extra virgin olive oil they make. He took us to so many places along the way that he thought we would like to see also. We take 3 cruises a year and average over 15 excursions on them all. We had experienced a lot and this is a MUST DO AND SEE!! I have never been so pleased and enjoyed such an amazing day and it was all due to our tour guide Dimitrois. We arrived back to the ship exactly when we were supposed to. When and if we visit this port again, I will definitely take this tour again and look so forward to doing so. Dimitrois is standing in the picture pointing out a special variety of olive tree. I never knew there were different kinds. I feel I made a friend for life and am a better person for experiencing the kindness shown to me and my husband on this amazing tour!!
