We had a wonderful day trip from Nairobi to Hell's Gate and the Lake Naivasha area the first week of March. The driver/guide Sammy picked us up on time and was very good. We are a family of 4 with two teenage kids. All of us loved the trip--it was one of the best things we did in Kenya. We had panoramic views of the Rift Valley, then drove through it, and then the park and lake are interesting and beautiful. Sammy made sure we met our Maasai guide in the park. That guide was also great and had gotten bikes for us. We saw lots of animals--and being on bikes makes it for us a more rewarding and very different experience than being in the van/truck. All of us loved the hike in the canyon--our kids really felt is was an adventure. It has the right combination of beautiful natural features and interesting volcanic/geologic information and having the guide with you makes it really stress free. Afterward we went to a super relaxing but good quality restaurant with large terrace with lake views that was perfect after the hike. I would recommend without qualifications Sammy and Perfect Wilderness Safaris.
Really very fun! Beautiful park and lake. Guides were all very well informed. Places for lunch were a bit overpriced but not very much choice in that I suppose. We were a little bit rushed at the end, but overall an excellent experience.
Great tour, would really recommend for those looking for a good day trip! Local guide in Hells Gate was excellent, and went out of his way to make sure I had a good time. Lake Naivasha is gorgeous, but the boat tour was somewhat robotic and touristy as an alternative, would highly recommend walking through the Crescent Island game sanctuary where you can often see the hippos and other wildlife at your own pace.
My guide was excellent he really put all out there to make us have a great experience! Without a doubt recommend it! Its worth the travel. The feeedom of biking and seeing the Animals up closes plus the natural landscape was increíble
The vehicle was a bit old and not much luxury but I guess is part of the experience.
This tour was led by Paul from Perfect Wilderness Tours and Safaris. Paul was very informative and chatty, and had loads of excellent insight regarding tourism in Kenya. He was immediately accommodating when I asked if I could stay in the car instead of ride the bicycles because my primary interest is birds, and cycling with my camera can be quite difficult. Paul also arranged a separate Masai guide who knows more about birds than he did, so that my experience would be top-notch. The drive through Hell's Gate was excellent, and the hike in the gorge was also a highlight. My only small criticism is that I was not expecting to have to pay more than 20 for the optional boat ride on Lake Naivasha as a solo passenger. Overall excellent tour, and I was very pleased that skipping the bicycles was a viable option.
This was a very enjoyable trip. Shadi was a good guide and driver. The journey to Hell's Gate took about two hours, with a stop at a nice souvenir shop.Cycling through Hell's Gate is a great way to see the wildlife - we saw gazelles, warthogs, baboons, buffalo, and the legs of giraffes! A bus arrived and scared them away before we could see any more! No elephants or predators in Hell's Gate The walk was picturesque, and we saw loads of birds. Unfortunately Shadi was not very good at identifying birds, which was a shame. The best bit of the trip was the boat trip on Lake Naivasha - we got quite close to a group of hippos, and saw 20-30 species of birds. My boat guide, John, was amazing - knew all the birds by sight from a good distance and even threw a dead fish for an eagle to swoop down and catch! Lunch at the lake was reasonable value.I am not giving this five stars because a I think it is quite expensive, especially as you have to add the boat trip on top, and b my guide did not know any birds, which I think is important. But it was still a very enjoyable day.
We had an excellent experience with our tour. We booked very last minute, about 24 hours before departure. Perfect Wilderness Tours and Safaris was the operator. They quickly contacted us to confirm details, and collected us promptly from our Nairobi hotel. It was only my wife and I - so no large group at all. Smooth transport there and back, excellent Masai guide Brian for the chilled bike ride and short hike through the national park. Lunch and optional boat ride at Naivasha - I recommend taking the boat ride - about 1 hour, very relaxed, lots of hippos and birds. Would recommend this to anyone who wants an easy day trip from Nairobi, limited time to research, with a professional operator, and see a national park and ride through it rather than just sitting in a safari truck. Highly recommended.
