This was our favorite excursion on our trip. Guide was fantastic. The hike part was as advertised - not for total couch potatoes but totally doable for anyone in reasonable shape. We leard a lot and had a ton of fun.
This tour was excellent! Hector, an experienced, prepared, and knowledgeable hiker, was our guide. This tour is perfect for those you are looking for a little bit of adventure while appreciating the beautiful scenery of El Yunque. Also, our meal was delicious at Wepa Arepa!
This truly was an amazing experience. Our guide, Alex, was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable about the forest and was always willing to answer our questions. The hike into the forest was the best part, especially the last waterfall. The market where we ate was very yummy, especially the smoothies. The rock slide was also a lot of fun and a great way to finish the day. Overall it was the best part of our vacation! Potential participants should note that this is not an easy hike. It is steep and it is slippery. You need to be fit enough to do the hike and you also need appropriate footwear.
This tour is truly an adventure, and highly recommended for those that want to challenge themselves and trek deep into a remote part of the rainforest. Alex was our guide, he was knowledgeable and in our case, very patient. We had a small group of six, and he lead us up a rocky ledge with many challenging hills that at times were muddy and steep. The beauty of the rainforest was a site to see and the view of the waterfalls was breathtaking. The natural rock body slide was fun, but rocks around it were pretty slippery, making it difficult for some that wanted to do it, but couldn't. The return trip was the same way we came, again the slippery mud made it a challenge, a couple of us taking some falls, but everyone worked together and we made it out safely. I want to emphasize how patient Alex was and offered a hand and guidance when we needed it, yet allowed us to experience this intense hiking tour for ourselves. Once the hike was done, Alex took us to other sites within the rainforest that were just as breathtaking, but much easier to get around. For lunch we stopped at a local road side food stand, the food was authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, it was delicious!
Good hiking, sightseeing, fun in the waterfalls and 'rock' slides and much more. Stopped at local lunch spot that was delicious. Our guide, Alejandro, was fantastic and made it a special day for all. Highly recommend.
Very good hiking trip, but much harder than we had expected. The description should list this as a difficult hike and not suitable for some people. There were very slippery steep sections that could be dangerous if you are not careful. That being said, the guide Alex was awesome. He took care of the entire group with professionalism and expertise.
The hike itself was a 1000' assent where we saw 3 waterfalls, lots of vegetation, and a few geckos. You take the same route back down the trail, but this can also be a challenge if it is wet. You were defiantly tired and dirty when this trip was complete. They also provided water bottles which you will defiantly want to carry with you.
Overall it was a great trip, but exercise caution if you are not in good shape and have good balance. Make sure you wear hiking shoes/boots, even though a good walking shoe will probably help. No open toe shoes.
This was an excellent excursion. Our tour guide Alex was outstanding. If you are thinking about doing this you need to know it really is an all day thing AND it is NOT an easy hike. I'm in pretty decent shape and I found the hike to the top of the waterfall fairly difficult. I wore running sneakers and slipped a few times. If you have actual hiking shoes you will fair better. You will get wet, sweaty and dirty. As long as you are expecting those things going in, you will have an awesome time.
