We were collected late after confusion when the company had had the address all along, the people in the bus seemed as though they had already “clicked” but it was like we were a nuisance and had held them up. The guide was very much all about himself, don’t get me wrong it’s nice to tell us a bit about yourself and get to know one another and we are all entitled to be proud of what we’ve achieved but this guy wasn’t interested in us! He seemed rather arrogant and we felt like he was looking down at us so to speak. On a better note the black sand beach and the waterfalls and the fact we got to climb a glacier was fantastic, awesome photo opportunities and an incredible experience. I was rather nervous when first stepping on the glacier and the guide (I understand has to lead the way) sped off ahead and didn’t bother looking back despite telling us if we get lost, fall or anything he will struggle to save us and can be highly dangerous or in fact fatal! I was struggling to keep up as it was hard to get a grip on the ice, hard to balance and very steep and nothing to hold on to. I had expected that we would have perhaps had another guide at the back like with other tours for example caving where they can make sure you are okay. We paid to try something out and experience it for the first time and we wanted an enjoyable experience. If the guide is such an expert he should enjoy introducing others to the sport and he is paid to make sure we have an enjoyable experience. We did not feel that he felt this way at all. I had to shout at one point to get them to wait and was really annoyed that I had to do this as well as feeling embarrassed and like I was holding everyone up. I was very tempted to go back and not bother whilst I was near the bottom because I was scared to think of the dangers further up the glacier. Thankfully in the end I just about managed with the help of my partner (it was supposed to have been his birthday treat) and was so glad I had made it to the top. Another thing was that on leaving the minibus the guide barely said goodbye or never bothered to ask about how we found the trip. It is unfortunate that this spoiled our experience.
