We were picked up on time and travelled in a comfortable minibus with another couple Our guide Raphael was informative and pleasant. He is obviously proud of his island and gave us plenty of time for photoshops to appreciate this beautiful island. A great trip and much better for just being a group of four rather than a bus tour
Met up easily with Raphael in the cruise port and transferred quickly to our minibus. There were just four of us which was excellent. Raphael was a perfect guide - knowledgeable, flexible, friendly and willing to answer all of our questions. Apart from the advertised stops we also stopped to see wild pineapple, tamarind trees and coffee bushes which were all growing beside the road. We added a visit to the sulphur springs to our trip for which we paid an extra 9 US each and stopped for a short time in Soufriere before returning to Castries. I would recommend this tour to anyone on a cruise who has limited time and who wishes to get out and about with a local guide.
We were met by Andrew who was to be our guide and driver. There was only my wife and I on the tour but he explained this was not a problem and in fact it worked really well as it became more personal. Andrew fully explained the history of the island and the sights we had selected on this excursion but also gave us a really interesting insight into the everyday life of islanders like himself who were born there and were raising a family. He stopped regularly at vantage points throughout our journey and when we did stop he tried to protect us from over zealous vendors, even recommending which had genuine local crafts. His driving on difficult roads was very good and he was very flexible about the times we could have at the main points of the tour and always kept a close protective eye on us. The tour we had chosen was very interesting in itself giving us a taste of the island scenery and points of interest. But it was made special and more enjoyable by Andrew's knowledge and enthusiasm and willingness to share his personal life and that of the islanders with us.
Led up at cruise terminal and had a knowledgeable guide, Raphael, all to ourselves. We got to see all the island. It was February 22 the islands independence day so everyone was out and beginning to celebrate. We got several stops for pictures and a bit of island history. He pointed out the flora along the way.
Overall an excellent way to get a feel for the island and its main sights if you are coming off a cruise ship. The only hiccup was that there was no clear indication where to meet the driver - Rafael. We were told to meet him at the Cruise Terminal, but this is a large and busy location, and he was actually waiting at the edge of the car park attached to the Terminal. We were the only couple on the tour, and Rafael was a charming guide and an excellent driver on the twisty drive to Soufriere. We stopped off at the Botanical gardens but didn't go to the volcano because it started to rain. We had a thoroughly enjoyable 4.5 hours.
We booked a private 4 hour tour for a party of 4 people. The driver met us at the designated time at the cruise port terminal and led us to a fairly new air-conditioned mini-van. We drove through the up-and-down, twisting roads through lush vegetation and small villages, most of them very poor. We stopped for photos and a bit of shopping at a roadside stand. We passed through the town of Soufriere and arrived at the drive-in volcano, where we paid the 8.80 USD pp entrance fee and took a walking tour of the active crater. Very interesting. Then we chose to stop for lunch at a waterfront restaurant in Soufriere before heading back to port. Our disappointment in this experience was that the driver was not a trained tour guide, and was not knowledgeable or outgoing. He did not introduce himself and we had to ask questions what is your name? as we drove along instead of him providing information about points of interest. He was accommodating, and polite, but it was NOT WHAT WAS ADVERTISED.
The guide was very nice. Be warned that the stops along the way are designed to expose you to local merchants that want you to buy stuff or get a few bucks for giving a 1 minute explanation of what you are taking a picture of. When you get to the volcano and hot springs, be sure to pay the entrance fee which is not included in the tour - walk up to the mountain and enjoy the hot springs for a bit while the guide waits.
