This day trip is long, and you spend a lot of time on the minibus, but that said, it is a good way to see Salzburg if you have limited time in Asutria. Ben our driver was great and tried hard and successfully to make it interesting despite the fog which limited the sights he would normally have pointed out on the way, and was kind and helpful. Despite the long car time (at least it was a really comfortable minibus, with iPads and wifi and preloaded with the Sound of Music) it did enable us to see some of th beautiful countryside and lake areas. Karen our guide in Salzburg, also knowledgeable, but took us through rather too speedily for me. Worth it with our limited time, but perhaps make time to,actually start in Salzburg?
Wonderful trip. Lake Region looks exactly like a postcard or tour book picture and shouldn’t be missed. Salzburg’s a lovely city and it was fun to see locations where the Sound of Music was filmed. Ben, our driver, picked us up promptly and was very knowledgeable and informative on the trip to and from—ask for him for your trip. And our guide in Salzburg (Karina?) also was knowledgeable and did an excellent job pointing out important sites and passing on pertinent historical information. Overall a great trip which I’d recommend.
Ton our guide was a good, albeit very eccentric. He is very knowledgeable and informative as well as personable. I only wish he would not tell us about his journey into mysticism and an indepth history of his dysfunctional famly... totally inappropriate for a tour of this type. The local Salzburg guide was knowledgeable but was cold and aloof.
This was an amazing tour. My husband and I as well as a couple of friends were the only participants. We loved being taken to Salzburg and seeing the fabulous sights of the old town. We would recommend it to any small group. Our guide was quite knowledgeable and sensitive to our needs and desires. Definitely put this tour on your list!!
The only thing that wasn't perfect was the weather!
Ben Aussie was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and shared much of this knowledge with us as we drove from point to point. In Salzburg, our tour guide for the walking tour was Yulia local who told us all about what makes Salzburg special not just Sound of Music, Mozart and Doppler.
The old town of Salzburg is gorgeous and the view from the fortress is just sensational.
The van was comfortable and clean. iPads are mounted on the seat so we could watch the Sound of Music on the way home.
A most enjoyable trip with the guide Marcus. The detours on the way to Salzburg via Mondsee and other villages were quite picturesque. Salzburg was an interesting town with a variety of optical treats. Due to reduced mobility, it was not possible to follow the whole walking tour our choice and NOT Imposed on us but we enjoyed our extra free time wandering at our own pace.
Really enjoyed this tour, and highly recommend it. Excellent guides on the drive up and in Salzburg, in particular our driver Tom he was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and informative to just the right degree, never overbearing. If we had one day to see Salzburg from Vienna this was the way to do it however since inevitably there could only be several hours in the town during which we saw plenty, it made us realize that a multi-day visit, had it been possible on our schedule, might really have been necessary to fully appreciate Salzburg and the other locations visited. Our decision had been whether to take this small-group luxury trip, or a less expensive large bus tour. What made this work within our budget was the youth discount for our college-age children, which most tour organizations do not offer, which kept the total price into a range we could handle, and we were so glad that was the case. Besides the personalization and flexibility and extra efficiency of the small group tour, we were super impressed with many high quality touches, i.e., the Mercedes van, very comfortable captain seats, I-Pads, wi-fi, excellent headphones, etc. Water was available, and umbrellas in case we were concerned by a chance of rain in the forecast. The stops on the way up were quite worthwhile on their own. Between the stops, the I-Pads, and Toms excellent narration, the travel time did not seem burdensome at all. Just one glitch to mention: Toms dialog was through a hand-held microphone, and there were parts of the trip on high-speed highways or busy city traffic. With all other aspects of the trip being so modern and high-quality, Id wonder why a hands-free mike could not have been used nothing ever felt particularly dangerous, but its the principle. But certainly we were fully satisfied with this tour.
My friends and I a group of three booked this trip as tour transportation - an interesting and efficient way to get from Vienna, where we'd been staying for a few days, to Salzburg, where we were departing for our trip home. The small van, which ended up only having the three of us and the driver, was PERFECT for providing relaxing travel while hearing about the country and seeing great views. Ben, our driver, and Phillip, our Salzburg walking tour guide, were excellent! Both provided lots of history and info, as well as suggestions for things to come back and see, places to eat, and tips and tricks for navigating Austria. I would definitely book this same trip, and will look for other opportunities to book through Viator in other cities. Excellent experience!!!
