Panoramica

This is definetely a tour worth doing...

This is definetely a tour worth doing while visiting the Chianti region! This was the highlight of my weekend trip to Siena. We were escorted to the beautfil village of Castellina by private van, after listening to an interesting take on Chinati wine thanks to our guide. After spending some free time in the village and seeing the main attraction of the medieval tunnel, we departed for Greve where a weekend market was taking place. The tour guide stopped at a beautiful little village and let us take photos. The highlight of the day was eating a delicious home-cooked Italian lunch in a little farm and winery. The Italian couple were amazing hosts and were so passionate about their wine business and the Chianti region. They made the lunch so enjoyable, thank you so much! We then went to a larger winery where we were able to watch part of the harvesting process occur. This was exciting and fascinating to watch. We enjoyed another wine tasting here. This is a tour definetely worth doing when you stay in Siena, but be mindful it's a busy day as you do so much! Thank you for an excellent day out!

It was a wonderful day in the Chianti region. Both Castellina and Greve in Chianti are beautiful towns not to be missed. The farm where we had lunch gave you a true and sincere experience of Italian family. I'm surprised that this tour is yet to be rated on Viator.

Small Group E-Bike Tour from Siena with Wine Tasting and Lunch | dic 2019
Dominco was an awesome tour guide. We experienced travel issues getting to the tour on time and he was very accommodating. He made sure that everyone was comfortable on the bikes before leaving for the tour. He set a good pace and stopped to check on the riders along the way. Safety was first. The scenic landscape you ride through was amazing. The one site-seeing stop along the bike ride was at the Certosa di Pontignano Monastery. This was a great stop. We also stopped along the way for scenic views. After the bike ride, we went to Museo and Vina Enoteca Eventi Cucina for lunch and wine tasting. The food was great and Andre, our host, was amazing. The food was sourced locally. After eating lunch, we also stopped at another vineyard for another wine tasting.

Small-Group Brunello di Montalcino Wine-Tasting Trip from Siena | dic 2019
We visited three unique vineyards that provided a great overview to the Montalcino region. The second vineyard is where we had lunch with the family running the vineyard. Really enjoyed getting to know the unique characteristics of Brunello!

Heavy of the sales pitch

Small-Group Brunello di Montalcino Wine-Tasting Trip from Siena | nov 2019
This was supposed to be a 3 winery tasting/tour with lunch. The first winery had a great tasting and tour. The second was no winery tour, wine with lunch was poorly described by the 'host'- who was really there to push his business (not the winery), with short supply of wines. We were lectured at throughout lunch. Tasty and plentiful lunch, though. Third winery was very busy, so not much of a tasting, but really nice people and talk with the winemaker. Our driver was great, and knowledgeable, but I was expecting more wine tasting/winery tour and less lecture/sales.

Small-Group Brunello di Montalcino Wine-Tasting Trip from Siena | nov 2019
This daytrip was a highlight of a wonderful 2-week trip with a group of friends. Our guide Giorgia was particularly helpful in accommodating us, showing the area and getting us into excellent experiences away from the throngs. We wanted to take her home with us. She arranged a lunch with a vintner and his wife that was positively spectacular. We could have spent 3 days in the area and not had as complete a visit as she provided in several hours. The area is stunningly beautiful, the wine delicious, and having a superb driver and guide was priceless.

An easy way to see the countryside

Small-Group Montepulciano and Pienza Day Trip from Siena | nov 2019
We had a lovely day with our tour guide, Ambra! I could have skipped the stop for tea/coffee in Asciano so that we could have more time in Pienza and Montepulciano, but we knew when we booked the trip that our time there would be limited. We enjoyed lunch on the patio at the pecorino farm. The view was absolutely beautiful! Lunch was light but good (but no meat). I was surprised that the pasta was a cold rotini salad from pre-made pasta---not the fresh pasta you'd expect in Italy. Ambra made the trip special. We stopped in several places so she could take photos of us. She is passionate about Italian history and culture and we really enjoyed talking to her. We took another Tuscan Escapes trip the next day and also had a good experience. I think their trips are a good way to see the countryside and explore hill towns if you don't have a car and don't want to deal with public transportation.

An easy way to explore Tuscany

Small-Group San Gimignano and Volterra Day Trip from Siena | ott 2019
Guiliamo was a great tour guide/driver. He is very friendly and passionate about history. The day started with a half hour at the castle at Monteriggioni, which is like a little, walled village. I think we had an hour at San Gimignagno. Then we had a delicious lunch at a saffron farm. The farm wasn't fancy, but the view was lovely and our hosts were very warm and welcoming. Then we had maybe around an hour and 15 minutes in Volterra. We stopped at an alabaster workshop on the way there. It was an amazing experience to watch this 87-year-old craftsman make a little bowl. I think that the tour is worthwhile if you don't have your own car and want to get into the countryside and get an introduction to hill towns. It's so easy to have someone else do the driving and great to be able to ask questions of an Italian tour guide. We also did another tour with Tuscan Escapes and had an equally good experience; their guides go through a rigorous training certification program required of Italian tour guides. My criticism would be that there isn't enough time to explore San G. and Volterra; we felt pressed for time and barely had enough time to walk around the towns and no extra time for shopping for visiting a museum, etc. Although the visit to Monteriggioni was nice, I could have definitely forgone that in order to have more time in the towns. However, we were aware about the short time in the towns when we read prior reviews.

Small-Group San Gimignano and Volterra Day Trip from Siena | ott 2019
Guglielmo is an expert on the history of Tuscany and the role of the various cities and towns dating to the Etruscans. The destinations on the tour are extraordinary in their own right,. But our guide brought them to life with anecdotes and discursions that engaged us all and at times resembled a graduate seminar on Midieval economic history. It was one of our most worthwhile experiences in Italy.

William was exceptional. He made us feel welcome the minute we stepped aboard. Great knowledge of the area and his country’s history. His personality was exuberant and infectious. All of the vineyards had something different to offer. We highly recommend William and the wine tour he represents. Regards, The Chouinard Family - Goffstown, NH

A Fabulous Day

Small-Group Brunello di Montalcino Wine-Tasting Trip from Siena | ott 2019
Of all that we saw and did in our 10-day trip to Tuscany, this was tops. We expected it to be interesting and fun, but it was also an adventure. Our driver, Amber, was terrific. She picked us up in the van and off we went into the countryside and up hills, deep into the wine-producing land and through villages. The ride is not for the infirm or faint of heart--the roads are rough and steep and you get rocked around in your seatbelt. There was an early change of plan because of a bicycle race in the area of our first vineyard stop; Amber and the other drivers punted and we were taken to a wonderful family vineyard and home for a tour and tasting on their lovely patio. Then on and up to a gorgeous hilltop vineyard for a sit-down lunch with the other van groups, 30 of us in all. Fine wines, wonderful food, amazing scenery. We were taken to yet another lovely winery and toured more of the area before being driven back into Siena. It was a long day, just great, well worth the price.
